The two sides of the abortion debate in America literally face one another in this documentary from filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady. In Fort Pierce, Florida, a women’s heath care center is located at the corner of 12th and Delaware. On the same corner, across the street, is another women’s heath care center. However, the two centers are not in the same business; one provides abortions along with a variety of other health services, while the other primarily offers counseling to women considering abortion, urging them to keep their babies. In 12th and Delaware, Ewing and Grady offer a look inside both offices, as pro-life counselors give women a mixture of concern and disinformation about terminating their pregnancies and the pro-choice medical staff struggles to work under the frequent threat of violence against them. The film also examines the handful of protesters who stand outside the abortion clinic, confronting both patients and staff as they enter and exit.

What’s wrong with pro-life people is we think all life is sacred- and that a beating heart means there’s life. It’s not a woman’s body- it’s a life inside a woman’s body. The whole “we don’t need more poor and uneducated children” is the most racist argument in the world. This is absolutely decimating the African American community disproportionately. Check yourself “progressive thinker”.

Until the life is capable of supporting itself outside the womb it is actually a part of the woman.

Alex, please read a college text book. It will tell you otherwise. Life begins at conception. The baby, from the beginning, is a separate and distinct human being. He or she has its own set of DNA.
Human Life and when it begins is not subjective. It’s objective. Via science.

Non-existence cannot be the worst thing to happen someone because it can’t happen to a person that doesn’t exist to begin with. A torturous existence on the other hand is very real and can result from being born into a situation that is not in accord with the no longer theoretical persons needs.

This ‘issue’ has been made controversial and confrontational for one simple reason: interference in the natural process of life and death within the personal human experience. Before the medical professional pirated human life and death through the instrument of ‘science’, women in harmony or opposition to her family and extended family/community excercised her innate wisdom and judgement in these private matters. It is a fair assumption that pro-life would be the dominant consensus and that natural abortificants were known and applied otherwise. BigPharma and their whoring legislators and employees have absolutely no lawful right to interfere, thus over time, ‘cornering the market’ in the profit of death for the purposes of depopulation. And no one has the right to impose an opinion on that woman under today’s genocidal system of limited choice; neither professionals nor individuals.

yeah, lets keep forcing christianity values down women’s throats, and into the legislative system. america has established a separation of church and state, so let’s keep it that way. you can freely practice your own religious views and what not, but you should not make others feel guilty with “God gave you this baby”. Pro-life people cannot use “God’s actions” to support anti-abortional views.
btw…
In Europe, people fled to America to get away from the monarchy forcing them to practice a certain religion. Let’s not repeat their mistakes.

The strange thing is that, even though I completely disagree with her stance and every manipulative and cruel trick in the book she uses, her way of speaking to the girls would, in a totally different environment, make her a damn good counsellor. Its a pity she’s chosen to hone these skills to feed warped information to vulnerable women rather than to actually help people.

The problem isn’t godless fools, the problem is fools using God, or any ‘higher power’ to justify bullshit wars, the slaughter of innocent people, and taking money from the pockets of people who really need it.
I was told aborted babies go to heaven. Well, heaven sounds a lot better than a family who hates me or can’t provide me enough food to live, let alone a shot at a successful, self-fulfilling life without all of the added baggage of growing up in a broken home.
Seems to me that people need to stop telling me how to save my soul, and focus on how to help people in this life, where we don’t have any illusions about how it will pan out.

The way the pro-lifers behaved was shameful. What gives them the right, to judge, controll and harrass people. The woman at the end made me so sad. The conversation needs to change from pro-choice and pro-life to how we can reduce the need for abortions. Sexual education is our best defense. Boys and girls need to be EDUCATED about their bodies, and sexual practices at the appropriate ages. Children that are properly educated grow into adults that practice safe sex. In regards to the statistics and information given from the pro-life clinic… you can always find statistics to prove your point. But in good research studies and when talking to educated professionals, you’ll find that condoms are 100% effective if used consistently and properly. The majority of women that receive abortions are NOT depressed, and do not regret their decision.

I respectfully disagree with your assertion that “you can always find statistics to prove your point. But in good research studies…” Statistics don’t prove anything. There’s a difference between evidence and proof. The fact that so many people confuse the two so often is a glaring example of how the education system is failing to teach us the most rudimentary scientific principal’s. Now please don’t think that I’m belittling your intelligence, much smarter people than me make the same mistake all the time.
Unfortunately the idea of science with responsible peer review and publishing the methods of testing is sadly becoming more of an ideal than a rule. Example; a hot button issue right now is global warming. The IPCC has at length tryed to sidestep/manipulate the peer review process whenever possible and has flatly refused to publish the methods of testing for some of its data. Some hackers even broke into the university’s that conduct research for the IPCC and stole email’s between researchers who were talking about using various “tricks” to manipulate data into showing a warming trend. (Google; Climategate)
Science is becoming more like a religion. Science is supposed to adhere to the scientific method but since so few people even know what that is anymore, the truth gets distorted. Sorry about my tirade, but this is an important facet that affect’s more than just the abortion issue, and is the reason people aren’t sure what what to believe in regard to the study’s.

…. The discovery last week of 28 baby girls, none older than 3 months, packed in nylon tote bags aboard a long-distance bus in southern China was a striking example of the trade but far from unusual, Chinese officials and experts in family issues say….
I am pro choice, simple fact is no one can dictate wants over needs on an individual basis. I wanted a baby, but the baby needs food, shelter & parents who are prepared. I couldn’t provide that, so I had a “natural” abortion. I had contractions, felt the pain, went through depression, disbelief and am the only person who has to deal with my decision. It’s NO ONE elses business. When I am prepared to have a child, that will be the day that special spirit will find me again.

Also, just like the girl at the end of this movie, if I had THAT much pressure from random people right there as I was making the decision, I don’t know if I could of gone through with it either. I was already a mess, it just wasn’t the right time.
My disbelief is in all the people putting this on God & Jesus. It shouldn’t be about religion, and women ARE in charge of their bodies. Times have changed. My disbelief is also on all those people who make promises to the mother about “we’ll pay your food, rent, clothes etc” but earlier said “oh no, we don’t go on their property”, as someone is yelling things right AT the window. I just shake my head at people.
Like the blonde woman THANKFULLY (congratulations to you) said, the bible states “thou shall not judge” (I’m spiritual so don’t know the actual words from the bible), so WHY is it ok to judge everyone BUT those who share the same beliefs!

These people bring my piss to a boil. If a woman believes that she is unable to bring her child into a safe, happy and healthy environment and feels that abortion is the right decision for the well-being of the child and herself then that right to that decision is hers and no one else’s. To intimidate and judge someone on making this decision, which is already stressful and emotionally distressing enough is just plain fucking cruel.

Love how even the description is biased toward the pro-abortion viewpoint. Wonder what “misinformation” is given by the pro-life groups. The preponderance of guilt, shame, and depression after having an abortion (all true). Or the “misinformation” about how it having an abortion can cause permanent damage to a woman’s body (also true.)

no like the misinformation like lying to women about how pregnant they are or telling them that they can get breast cancer from abortions or calling themselves a ‘pregnancy care center’
June 28, 2011 at 2:59 am | Anonymous
Many people relate abortion to things like personal choice or religion but I don’t think it is the underlying issue. I believe it is simple. Regardless of religion, emotions, feelings,or circumstances,we all have a conscience which tells us right from wrong. Does your conscience tell you that this is right? If one does not know how to utilize their own conscience by distinguishing what is right from wrong then they should not have that freedom to decide. You are able to type this today because you were graciously given the choice of life. But what if because of circumstances such as poverty, age, etc. and feelings such as being scared or worried over reputation etc., you did not exist today? If not having enough money to support a child is the criteria for living and having a life then most of us should not be here today.

People are entitled to their opinions, but what these “Pregnancy Counseling Centres” are doing is incredibly inethical. They peddles so much misinformation that you can see in this film. For example, the staff keeps telling them fetuses “grow so fast, they double in size every week”
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Week 7 – 9 mm, Week 8 – 13 mm, Week 9 – 18 mm. Not. Doubling. And they don’t look like fully formed miniature babies, check out what an embryo (note: embryo. Not even considered a fetus yet.) looks like at 6 weeks: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/89/Human_Embryo.JPG/200px-Human_Embryo.JPG
That you can get breast cancer from abortion. Entirely false, no connection.
And then she accuses the clinic across the street of not being “neutral”? For giving accurate, peer-reviewed medically sound advice.
People are entitled to correct information in order for them to make a decision for themselves. You cannot feed people false information so they agree with you. The fact that they need to resort to this puts so many holes in their case. And this false info is commonplace – that abortions lead to breast cancer, playing videotapes of false ultrasounds, lying about risk & complication rates. And none of these people are actual health care professionals – they are in no place to be communicating medical information to people. It’s absurd. And the way she goes about whispering about the patients with the staff, relaying her judgments? It’s so unprofessional.
If these people want to reduce the number of abortions, they should be rooting for MORE birth control and comprehensive sex education. But these are the same people advocating abstinence-only programs statistically shown to INCREASE the rates of teen pregnancy and sti’s. Congratulations, you’ve got yourself a man-made paradox. It’s ludicrous the damage pro-lifers are doing. I respect your beliefs, but not your irrational and dangerous tactics.
Here’s a few facts for you:
- You are more likely to experience death, complications or loss of fertility by giving birth than by having an abortion.
- The risks and complications associated with abortion are on par with other routine procedures.
- Most women do NOT regret their abortion. Check out this site for stories! http://www.imnotsorry.net/

Of course, life begins at conception and it’s pointless to argue otherwise- but consciousness does not. Without consciousness a fetus does not have the knowledge of life that it would be missing out on if it is aborted. It is conscious-less, as evidenced by the inability of any human being, ever, to remember being in utero.
If you are comfortable arguing that a conscious-less living thing always has a right to life and not have it’s fate decided by man, then stop eating plants. or anything.
