What is the real reason behind Britain’s housing shortage. Is it really because of a true shortage of new houses or is there another reason. 1. Housing is usually a free market commodity. Most distortions in the property market are caused by government regulations either way that restrict or encourage development causing booms and busts. Existing home owners want restrictions that keep their own investments up and California is a prime example. The UK has a lot of immigration and a growing lower class that will be forced to rent forever. It’s a reality they should accept.
