The Gangland series tells the insider story and we learn how the gangs shaped their times and affected the neighborhoods that they controlled. From the destruction wrought by the heroin kingpins in Harlem of the 1970s to today’s most dangerous gang MS-13, which has spread out from the inner city to infect unexpected turf – suburban communities-gangs have a rich yet deadly history. They usually start out as a form of protection for their members and community but then grow predatory as they feed on the very people that they purport to defend. With exclusive interviews and rarely seen footage, this is a raw look at life inside these gangs-from those who live it and the agencies that are working to stop them.... Watch Now

Mexico’s Drug War

Crime

Drugs

Gangs

Murder

News & Politics

Society

Violence is running out of control in Mexico as rival drug cartels battle over the smuggling routes to America. Mexico’s president has declared war on the gangsters but the only result appears to be an escalation of the killings. More than 7000 people were killed in drug-related violence in Mexico in 2009 and 2010 has already got off to a gruesome and bloody start. The man who runs Mexico’s most powerful drugs cartel, Chapo Guzman, continues to elude capture. Ranked as one of the world’s richest and most powerful men, Guzman’s exploits are glorified in folk songs and his recent wedding was allegedly attended by senior Mexican officials. Katya Adler journeys deep into the heart of a shocking conflict, uncovering the human stories behind the seemingly random and disturbing violence. She asks whether the continuing freedom of the world’s most powerful drug runner, Joaquin Chapo Guzman, is evidence that the Government’s war is toothless.... Watch Now

Scenes From A Teenage Killing

Crime

Gangs

Lifestyle

Murder

Society

Bafta-winning director Morgan Matthews’s landmark film exploring the impact of teenage killings on families and communities across Britain, an emotional journey that chronicles every teenager who died as a result of violence in 2009 in the UK. Harrowing actuality filmed in the immediate aftermath combines with moving testimony from the spectrum of people affected in the wake of violent death. Filmed over eighteen months, this epic documentary is the BBC’s most ambitious film to date about youth violence. The film questions society’s attitudes towards young people whilst probing the meaning behind terminology such as ‘gang violence’ or ‘gang-related’ often used in connection with teenage killings.
