Directed by critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker Stacy Peralta and Executive Produced by NBA star Baron Davis and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Stephen Luczo, CRIPS AND BLOODS: MADE IN AMERICA tells the story of the Crips and Bloods, South Los Angeles’ two most infamous African-American gangs.
Combining unprecedented access into the worlds of active gangs, CRIPS AND BLOODS: MADE IN AMERICA offers a compelling, character-driven documentary narrative which chronicles the decades-long cycle of destruction and despair that defines modern gang culture.

The shocking war-zone reality of the South LA Gangs, the Crips and the Bloods.

From the genesis of LA’s gang culture to the shocking, war-zone reality of daily life in the South L.A., the film chronicles the rise of the Crips and Bloods, tracing the origins of their bloody four-decades long feud. Contemporary and former gang members offer their street-level testimony that provides the film with a stark portrait of modern-day gang life: the turf wars and territorialism, the inter-gang hierarchy and family structure, the rules of behavior, the culture of guns, death and dishonor.

Ex-gang members of the Crips and Bloods, gang intervention experts, activists and academics talk.

Throughout the film ex-gang members, gang intervention experts, writers, activists and academics analyze many of the issues that contribute to South LA’s malaise: the erosion of identity that fuels the self-perpetuating legacy of black self-hatred, the disappearance of the African-American father and an almost pervasive prison culture in which today one out of every four black men will be imprisoned at some point in his life.

Solution to the South LA gang problem.

Finally the gang members themselves articulate their enduring dream of a better life. They provide CRIPS AND BLOODS: MADE IN AMERICA with its ultimate statement: a message of hope and a cautionary tale of redemption aimed at saving the lives of a new generation of kids, not just in South LA but anywhere in the world that gang violence exists.

We, the HUMANS of earth are repulsed by your type of ignorance way more then gangs and thugs. They might outgrow their condition and mindset whereas you, hiding in anonymity shoot your big ugly mouth off like you know anything at all. Are YOU CIA? Do you have facts on your side? I doubt it. If you assertions are true you should be ashamed rather then proud of your bigotry. I’m a WHIT man who thinks you suck in any color. Grow the hell up fast idiot!

Hey there Michael fagbot. lol “Like, OMG, that kinda hating is so yesterday” Spoken like a true nigger loving san francisco faggot. And yes, i am the cia AND im white…what other facts do you require?Just the fact that i am white should be evidence enough for you. Maybe i should rephrase my initial statement. As well as wishing that the CIA was successful in spreading aids amongst niggers, i now also wish that you yourself contracted aids via the CIA. Seriously though buddy, on behalf of the internet id like to request you go fuck yourself off a cliff. “white power” and feel free to pretend i used any other slogans that may result in you getting all butthurt again. Rage more, it sustains me. Btw, what is a “whit” man? Not too sure what you are trying to say here….Maybe learn to spell or something. And how is it even possible for me to die from “this kind of hating. I mean, am i going to type this stuff and suddenly just burst into flames? Amazing to see the corruption that been going on for so long in the streets of California. It has never been stopped these gangs grow and grow more everyday just to kill their rivals. For everyone shot theres 2 more waiting.

End the War on Drugs.  Legalize all drugs.  Do these things and the gang problem goes away.

        • soadpsycho

actually thats a totally valid statement towards organizations and illigal operations profitting off of the sale of drugs. its sad when people dismiss that fact when there are kids on the street going to jail for petty possesion charges wasting tax money, not to mention the dangers they have to go through getting the shit from people who have guns and knives and dont care who they use it on as long as they make a buck excluding the fact that they sell drugs that have the potential to be fatal from one use because nobody cares what is put into them as long as it gets their clients stoned and they make that buck. you have government controlling marijuana, shrooms, and all the “controllable” substances then you take the dealer out of the picture. its like the prohibition of alcohol when that was a time of organized crime… now i can freely walk into the beer store not worrying if ill get arrested or shot up by the opposing mafia from wich i went to pick up from. threatend and beat up not to go back. and dont have to risk my life making it in my basement with jailtime or mafia influence on my mind. as for meth, crack, and smack, and anything else i missed. thats a different issue that has to be completely ridden from our world.

          • soadpsycho

if anyone comments on pot, saying its nothing like alcohol, your right. its in fact better. like alcohol its used as a medication to treat certain illnesses. but unlike alcohol because you cant overdose on it unless you ate your body weight of the stuff. if someone wants to try it, its because they are too stupid to be responsible for themselves but they only have their parents, peers, education, and society to blame for that, along with themselves of corse. if they are too much of an imbecile to realize the dangers in anything life has in store and choose that path, then props to them for clearing up a space on this land for a more intelligent human being to actually make a better difference on this planet with best use of their time.

I think this was one of the best documentaries , everyone should watch it – and it would help educate them toward more real answers toward a unified country and world, we need to stop injustice big time and stop poverty, and teach a well rounded intellect and proper interacting skills, because injusice is what ruined this world and the improper interracting skills of the ruling class is what made them have misconceptions of who the people are and how they really feel – and the ruling class made one mistake after another…..injustice……..
    injustice
    …………
    injustice
    …………..
    injustice
    ……………
    injustice
    .

our intellect will stop all of their injustices…………………you just have to believe

and organize and document all the truths of authorities wrong thwinking and acting big time
get all the good groups and organizations interrested in human rights to form one giant organization
its time for us all to be free – thriving – and happy

I can understand when the gangs were against the police and other oppressive forms of authority…but today it’s black on black…aint no one gonna put a stop to this cos this is exactly what the authority wants…blacks killing each other.

    • S*ithead

sorry, but emma, are you in a gang and kill people that threaten anything you stand for? all of that is by choice. these people have a choice. if they dont want to do it, they dont have too. and its not just blacks, its every colour. it takes themselves to stop it. everyone in the world that does not want this to go on wont be able to stop them. if i went anywhere at any time to put an end to gang violence id be dead and nobody would listen to me. it takes the community to push them out and its gang members to stop. move out of the neighborhood if you want you children to have meaningful lives away from this. real simple answer is nobody is going to do anything for you.

With open discussion, a wanting to change and genuine commitment, this documentary has made serious changes to many of my youth already. The answer is written all throughout this documentary…Love & Integration!! We’re all humans…We all have the same types of feelings…The same types of responses… It’s human nature… Love & Integration. We all want it and we all need it…We’ve seen what can happen and what does happen when we’re denied this natural right…When we’re segregated from it…Love & Integration… I know it’s not that easy.. but on the other hand…Isn’t It?!

The film is a historical view on being black in Los Angeles/USA. It is, therefore, much more educative than i thought it would. Thank you so much for this amazing documentary.

I feel I have gained a greater understanding of this issues faced by gang members and the way they are. I held the view of a burning island that we could put them all on and everything would better but watching this has made me realise I need to be part of the solution. Its hurtful to think of how they may feel when I look at them (anyone who looks gang related).
I have also gained some pretty spectacular knowledge.

    Ugly face of America.

black or white, gay or straight, right or left, atheist or religious are all just diversions from the true battle between rich and poor, the 99.8 versus 0.2.

    • Lsf

and just to clear up; the black struggle is legitimate but has been choked by the aristocracy because i posed a threat to the status quo. Damnit we should all stand together for justice. Tea partiers, blacks and gays, weirdly they have the same enemy: the richest few. They clap their hands at our internal battles, thats what they want, because it drowns our resistance.

I think that police is leting them to kill eachother… Divide and rule… It would be interesting to see what would happen if they got out of their “circles”… Good documentary, it explains a lot of things but in the end I only see that the gangs are owned :)

  • J.Carolina

This documentary was alright. I had no positive male role model and I was raised by my Mom and I’m from a drug infested community,we had street gangs they weren’t Crips and Bloods but it was like one project against another,it wasn’t so bad that I had to choose, and that what makes me wonder about the testimonials of this film. I believe a portion of it may be legitimate. But I’m from this kind of setting and it sounds to me some of those guys are trying to justify there mistakes and wrongdoing by pointing the finger at everyone else! I’m Black, why should I feel responsible because you choose a Gang! There is one more thing I like to mention if they legalize drugs it’ll actually make matters worse because that underground economy if it goes away completly will create a vacuum. Which in turn will send the crime rate through the roof. On the flipside I see where people come from because they legalize everything else. They outlaw prostitution but isn’t pornography a form of prostitution. They outlaw the numbers racket but isn’t the lottery a numbers racket. So from a certain point of view I see what they saying but believe me that would only complicate matters further.

  • Geust

The film makers are apparently on crack, and also have a horrible case of the DT’s.  Or perhaps they feel that black people are too stupid to pay attention to any image that doesn’t move at least once every half-second.
It would make an ok radio show, but is insulting to view.

Look up and read the “Protocols of the Learned Elders Of Zion”. It is not about religion but rather about what the folks above governments(the once that place our elected officials into their positions) master plan entails. A must read!

  • Henry

It’s really sad. These people were not born bad people. They don’t know any different. Sure they know what they are doing is illegal and morally horrific, but this is all they know. I have two main queries: 1) why has the government not intervened, in a proper manner, sooner? 2) why do these women have children when they have such huge money worries, unfaithful husbands/boyfriends and they live in the area they do? Surely it would be smarter to sort their own lives out first before having other lives to worry about.

It’s so easy to say what someone else should do when you’ve never been in other peoples shoes. How can you simply say get a job, when the statistics already show how hard it is for grown men, as you say, to get get them. The gang life is not THEE life, as some people in the film said themselves at different times during the documentary. Over 40 years running, and an estimated 100,000 members between the two in the California area alone, I would think it’s gonna take more than us just saying, “…enough already” and “…go get a job”. Not to mention how we all are products of our environment, and theirs is an environment unlike the so-called norm. I don’t support the existence of the negative side of any of these groups in any way, however I don’t condemn any of those involved. If there is drug selling going on, I want to know who supplies them, as they are not in control of the boarders that stuff has to cross. If the gun presence is as they say it is, I want to know why the confiscated weapons are those that have been recorded as confiscated more than once or twice before by the authorities. What’s REALLY going on that keeps the alleged illegal activities of gangs going. Something or someone is sustaining them besides their own efforts. As bad as they themselves are telling us things are where they live, the government themselves should have more than enough reason for getting involved, yet they really don’t, not thoroughly. I wonder why. Neighborhoods with far less problems have felt the wrath of the government, but not theirs in L.A. Why? If Bloods and Crips were to convert to full community involvement for positive change and advancement, they would be a force to recon with. The leaders and more educated members would feed the minds of the other members, and they would begin to have an interest in having a different family structure. This would especially be true if REAL jobs were to actually become available to them that would actually support a family and it’s future. Made in America is metaphoric, and those who are blind will simply spend time dogging and chastising these folks instead of understanding this documentary for what it really is. And excellent is what it is.

Absolutely brilliant insight into the deeply-rooted and complex nature and history of African American gang violence in the US. Beautifully done, the interviews offer a clear look at the lives of many of those affected by or involved in gang violence. 10 stars for sure, thank you for this information!
