Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father

In 2001, Andrew Bagby, a medical resident, is murdered not long after breaking up with his girlfriend. Soon after, when she announces she’s pregnant, one of Andrew’s many close friends, Kurt Kuenne, begins this film, a gift to the child.

Friends, relatives, and colleagues say warm and loving things about Andrew, home movies confirm his exuberance.

Andrew’s parents, Kathleen and David, move to Labrador where the ex-girlfriend has gone.

They await an arrest and trial of the murderer. They negotiate with the ex-girlfriend to visit their grandchild, Zachary, and they seek custody.

Is there any justice; is Zachary a sweet and innocent consolation for the loss of their son?

  1. I found the material unbelievable but too bad it’s done in such a “cartoonlike” manner. It really destroys the entire thing. It’s not done in a proper manner. Someone needs to do a really good one about this.

  2. The judge that turned that bitch loose should face shirley’s extradition and sentence.

  3. I thought this documentary was  for free it is showing in my screen that I have watched 72 minutes of movie today and I need to purchase a membership today !! ????

  4. by far one of the most shocking and well done documentaries i have ever seen-  and i have seen hundreds and hundreds.   i was shouting out loud watching it…   i intend to write the government.  Kate and David are two of the most amazing people i have ever come across..  A MUST WATCH

  5. I hate that filthy selfish bitch. She killed that baby just to hurt everyone. Once again a white woman escapes justice . Another casey Anthony

    • Of course she killed that baby to hurt everyone, I don’t know why that is even questioned. I hate to imagine just what she may have done to the baby before she jumped. She’s so sick & wicked. Yet, got everything her way. Terrible, just terrible.

    • Shut up, you fucking ignorant retard.

  6. Fuck! It annoys me to see that the parents of Andrew are actually talking to Shirley, their son’s murderer! Fuck that ugly bitch why isn’t she in jail?! I’m only halfway through the documentary by the way.

  12. What a truely amazing testiment to the human spirit. Thank you Kate and David for having the heart and courage of angels. Thank you Kurt for telling this powerful story. I am still sobbing and my heart aches for your tragedy Kate and David. I can not fathom the evil that some people have in their souls yet I am close to a tragedy similar in nature. After nearly a decade we are still trying to find answers. We believe the guilty parties were her own parents. Thank you again for reinstilling in me hope that eventually the truth will prevail. Much love and gratitide, Joanne

  13. Amazing. Truly beautiful, enraging and tragic at the same time. It’s such a shame that this doc is not more well-known. I was absolutely sobbing by the end.

  14. Simply tragic that the Judicial system of Newfoundland and Canada failed so many people, I am Canadian and I am ashamed by it, At first I almost took it personaly because I did not think this “MONSTER” would actualy kill her own son, but like everyone who was touched so profoundly by Andrew and lost him to this “Fucking Monster” I should of seen it coming, that is the Job of the “so Called Professional” who are responsible for this beautiful little baby who should be here with us today. I am ever so glad that the parents managed to get a few blows to the system, and hope that they realise that they DO NOT HAVE A 9-5 JOB, THEY ARE THERE TO HELP SOCIETY AND KEEP “FREAKS” AWAY AND LOCKED UP FROM GOOD PEOPLE!!!. This the saddest doc I have ever seen, on the story alone it is incredible, Kurt , you did a really great job and a beautiful tribute to your friend, his family and everyone Andrew touched in his short life,Zach would of done the same I am sure of that. I can understand why anyone would question there faith on religion, the preist even did not have answer. there may be one , I do not see it…sorry. My heart goes to all and especialy the Parents.

  15. This is an absolutely amazing story! I HIGHLY recommend you watch this documentary. I had this just sitting on my computer for months before I finally watched it. This is maybe the saddest thing that has ever happened to anyone.
