Linux, and the open source and free software movements. It features
several interviews with prominent hackers and entrepreneurs (and
hackers-cum-entrepreneurs), including Richard Stallman, Michael
Tiemann, Linus Torvalds, Larry Augustin, Eric S. Raymond, Bruce
Perens, Frank Hecker and Brian Behlendorf. The film begins in medias
res with an IPO, and then sets the historical stage by showing the
beginnings of software development back in the day when software was
shared on paper tape for the price of the paper itself. It then segues
to Bill Gates's Open Letter to Hobbyists in which he asks Computer
Hobbyists to not share, but to buy software. (This letter was written
by Gates when Microsoft was still based in Arizona and spelled
"Micro-Soft".) Richard Stallman then explains how and why he left the
MIT Lab for Artificial Intelligence in order to devote his life to the
development of free software, as well a... Watch Now

Using CGI animation, we’ll explore bizarre worlds that stretch our imagination: planets with iron rain and hot ice, with diamonds everywhere, and endless oceans of gas.

Planets with abnormal orbital patterns and planets with no pattern at all that drift alone in the Milky Way. Planets so strange we never could have predicted them before. Could life exist there?

In the search for another Earth, astronomers hope to discover other terrestrial planets. These bodies may have a rocky terrain and may even hold water on their surfaces.

The most Earth-like planet discovered thus far is Gliese 581c, which orbits near the area known as the habitable zone.

This elusive zone, also called the “Goldilocks Zone,” lies between the star and its planets, and may allow li... Watch Now

Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in
2003 to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has
always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after
Saddam’s regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band
in which real freedom seemed possible. That hope was quickly dashed as
their country fell into a bloody insurgency. From 2003-2006, Iraq
disintegrated around them while Acrassicauda struggled to stay
together and stay alive, always refusing to let their heavy metal
dreams die. Their story echoes the unspoken hopes of an entire
generation of young Iraqis.... Watch Now

2006, exposes the dangers of voting machines used during America's mid
term and presidential elections. Electronic voting machines count
approximately 90% of America's votes in county, state and federal
elections. The technology is also increasingly being used across the
world, including in Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Latin
America. Filmed over three years this expos' follows the
investigations of a team of citizen activists and hackers as they take
on the electronic voting industry, targeting the Diebold corporation.

"Hacking Democracy" uncovers incendiary evidence from the trash cans
of Texas to the ballot boxes of Ohio, exposing secrecy, votes in the
trash, hackable software and election officials rigging the
presidential recount.

Ultimately proving our votes can be stolen without a trace "Hacking
Democracy" culminates in the famous 'Hursti Hack'; a duel between the

(see Gulf War).

The resulting fires burned out of control because of the dangers of sending in firefighting crews. Land mines had been placed in areas around the oil wells, and a military cleaning of the areas was necessary before the fires could be put out. Somewhere around 6 million barrels (950,000 m3) of oil were lost each day. Eventually, privately contracted crews extinguished the fires, at a total cost of US$1.5 billion to Kuwait. By that time, however, the fires had burned for months, causing widespread pollution.... Watch Now

These programs were later adapted into other simple games during the 1950s. By the late 1950s and through the 1960s, more computer games were developed (mostly on mainframe computers), gradually increasing in sophistication and complexity.[n 1] Following this period, video games diverged into different platforms: arcade, mainframe, console, personal computer and later handheld games.

The first commercially viable video game was Computer Space in 1971, which laid the foundation for a new entertainment industry in the late 1970s within the United States, Japan, and Europe. The first major crash in 1977 occurred when companies were forced to sell their older obsolete systems flooding the market.

Six years later a second, greater crash occurred. This crash—brought on largely by a flood of video games coming to the market—resulted in a total collapse of the conso... Watch Now
