Here’s Hockey!

Featuring Jean Beliveau, this short film focuses on hockey from the inside out. Known as Canada’s national pastime, this film demonstrates why hockey is such an exciting spectator sport. From east to west, the connection between fans and players is evident in the excited cries of “we’ve won!” From Pee-Wee to Bantam, from the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association to the big league pros, Here’s Hockey! shows what it takes to make a great hockey player.

  1. Wrong. To the majority of the World ‘hockey’ is field hockey.

  2. What a great doc!  I have never seen such great footage of that era.  Truly remarkable.  Goalies no mask…OMG.

  3. In Canada we are very proud and protective of our game; our gift to the world.  It runs deep in our hearts, our minds, our guts.  It is entwined and enmeshed in our national identity and our very soul.  It’s the only sport that really matters and occasionally the only thing that matters.  We call it hockey.  Feel free to call it anything you want, but it’s hockey.

  4. I paused the film where they showed the program for the NHL game.  I remember watching a lot of those guys play on Hockey Night in Canada.  Every Saturday was spent on the pond playing hockey, emulating our favorite players.  When our toes were cold we would go in and try to warm them by sticking our feet into the oven of the wood stove.  The pain would be so bad we would start to cry.  My mother used to shake her head at us and give us hell for not coming in sooner.  But as soon as the feet were warm again and the pain was gone, out we went and did it over again.  After supper the neighbors would come over and we would gather by the wood stove, drink hot chocolate and watch  the game on our old black and white tv set.  It was a wonderful part of my life and I miss it.

Ice hockey, field hockey, road hockey, ball hockey……who cares!  It’s all hockey.

  5. anybody that thinks you are talking about field hockey, when you say hockey, is only somebody that plays field hockey. everybody else assumes it’s ice hockey.

  6. Very enjoyable video to the hockey fan! Go Coyotes!

  7. “… this short film focuses on hockey from the inside out.”

No it doesn’t, it focuses on ICE hokcey …

    • shut it beardy

    • yes, the game is played on ice! *rolleyes*

      • what a tosser

      • Stupid comment. The point is that hockey is more coomonly applied to the game of field hockey, and for clarification the descriotion of this movie should have been “… this short film focuses on ice hockey from the inside out.”

        • In Canada (the subject and producer of the doc) hockey is hockey and ‘ice hockey’ is redundant. Things are called different things in different places. Who knew?

          • As noted by others ‘hockey’ is used to refer to ‘field hockey’; a usage that is almost global, and it would help the readership of the WORLD Wide Web if a niche interpretation of the word was clarified.
