Madeleine Was Here

How do the McCanns deal with the pain of not knowing what has happened to their daughter? And how do they try to create a normal life for the sake of Madeleine’s brother and sister, four-year-old twins Sean and Amelie?

With the search now shelved by the Portuguese police – and no officers in Portugal or the UK dedicated to the case – the investigators (former police officers from the UK) speak about their interest in a series of important sightings in and around the Ocean Club complex, Praia da Luz, in the days leading up to May 3rd 2007.

For the first time, Gerry McCann returns to Apartment 5a of the Ocean Club complex, where he last saw his daughter. Also returning to Portugal are Jane Tanner and Matthew Oldfield, two friends from the group known as the ‘Tapas 7′, who were on holiday with the McCanns at the time.

The documentary reconstructs events surrounding Madeleine’s disappearance using actors and based on testimony given to the Portuguese police as part of their investigations.

That is just downright rude. Praying is productive. Whether it is praying to God or communing with the universe, praying is contemplating with the energy which surrounds each and every one of us. Give praying a try. It may help to ease the rudeness you possess and unfortunately display towards others.

          • I hopw they find her

if God took the girl who are you to ask for her to come back.

if God exists he is responsible for taking her.

you cant give God all the good credit and leave the bad things out!

the guy who took her prayed just like you!

stop praying and go donate some money or join a search team!

and how would you know what God to pray to to begin with?!

You people may mean well but actually your not helping so at least don’t argue when you get criticizes.

@a878621dbf66091ff46a1eb2b49b8fce:disqus read your linked article, and funny enough they only talked about results of the ‘patients that knew that they were praying for them’ versus the results for the ‘patients that they were not praying for at all;, while in my opinion the interesting results are the ones from the ‘people that they were praying for without them knowing that’. It would be explainable simply by that prayer is a wish, relying on love, while telling patients(the object that the love is projected on) create in them expectations, which outrules the power of the (unconditional) love. Love works because it’s unconditional, and expectations dont work as they are based on fear, which outrules the power of love.

    Heartbreaking !

  • tRoupa

I don’t care… who leaves 3 BABYS alone and has the nerve to say that the police hasn’t done nothing…

One thing is to loose your kid at a park or something, that is heartbreaking, you we’re holding your kid’s hand in one moment and the other he is missing. But leaving your kid’s alone like that is asking for it.

if you walk around naked you’ll get raped that’s the world we’re we live lol

I’m sorry for the girl but not for the parent’s, if they have deamons is because they created them.

I was going to type a lengthy reply to your stupid, vindictive, ignorant comment, but then I noticed your spelling and realised it would be unfair.

      • Arma

        tRoupa only
spelt two words incorrectly from what I can see and your comment is just avoiding the issue by criticizing something abstract (
        tRoupa’s spelling
in this case). I see this tactic all the time on You Tube
        haha
. Some people are good mathematically whilst others are better in terms of their grammar/punctuation skills. It’s not hard to use a spell checker which is why it’s pointless bashing someone’s spelling over the net :) Anyway, whilst he was fairly harsh with his choice of words, he is correct. A normal working class family would of been prosecuted for child negligence. There’s been cases where parents have been prosecuted for leaving 12 year olds on their own. Do you think the McCann’s should be treated differently? If so then why? They only have themselves to blame regardless of whether their telling the truth or not.

        • docuwatcher

do you think they should be treated differently? Yes! they have had no previous convictions of child negligence or even troubles with social services. Of course they only have themselves to blame but neither the Portuguese or British authorities acted very quickly or in a united fashion. And I think the punishment of losing a child is punishment enough. I am guessing you don’t have children as you would realise two things:

1). there will be some point in your childs life when they will go missing (even for a second). It can happen to the best parents out there. Look at the Bulger murders for example.

2). Losing a child is more painful than any other sentence to a parent.

arrgh soo bad, i really want to know if the child will be o.k, soo striking I wrote a song about it!

This isn’t the first documentary I have seen about this little girl gone missing. They have been on the news and bill boards for years looking for this little girl.

Why were their friends never suspected? If they were checking on the children every 30 mins, they clearly had the chance.

    • amber

The friends were most likely suspected, and questioned and ruled out. They wouldn’t not suspect them, police and detectives aren’t that stupid. Just because they didn’t put it in the documentary, doesn’t mean they didn’t question everyone involved.

The whole thing is suspicious if you ask me…

    • Anna

I think its kind of suspicious too…

  • amber

I agree, it all sounds strange. Enough people witnessed a man carrying a child in pajamas, with no shoes and white (while he was clearly not white). The people who witnessed him, are dumb. They should have called the police on suspicious behavior. Also, what doesn’t make sense, is why wasn’t she crying or screaming? She clearly didn’t know this man, but she layed in his arms lifeless, for many blocks. And the parents aren’t to smart either. Leaving three children unattended, while vacationing! That’s not the greatest parenting if you ask me.

  • emily

Before you judge someone in a situation so horrible and heartbreaking why don’t you take a look at your life. What if it was your child? I can’t imagine losing my daughter and this happens every day, Look for things in your life to make sure it doesn’t happen to your own. Don’t judge her parents because someone took their child. Thats like talking shit about the other millions of people who never found their children and are still looking.

  • semourview

maaan!!!! such a tear jerker! pisses me off how this can happen, frustrating!!! good viewing, soo inspirational I wrote a song about it!

  • breathnach

I think its horrific how people are so quick to judge people for mistakes that they have made.  Mistakes that now will most likely eat at them and destroy them for the rest of their lives.  Maybe it wasn’t the best decision ever made by two parents, but i’m sure there are parents out there all over the world that made stupid mistakes regarding their children, took their eye off the ball for a second, sadly  in this situation the McCanns weren’t so lucky to get a second chance.  I truly feel for them and my thoughts are with them and their children and I hope one day all their efforts in the search for their daughter prevails.

How many other non-white kids have been kidnapped since Madeleine McCann? Can you recall hearing about any of them on the news? Either can I.

  • Stephanie Trodd

Poor Baby Girl. I hope they find her soon!

Regarding those who have expressed their outrage toward the parents of Madeline (in the form of ‘rude’ posts in this thread), it’s normal and human to have such a reaction. Anger is a secondary emotion to fear; it is less painful to feel anger than the terror that comes with the unthinkable possibility of your child being abducted.

Let me give you guys more details. The night Madeleine vanished everyone did a check. According to the police files there were several times but this is one of them:

8:55 pm Matthew Oldfield checks on his kids and everything is fine.
9:05 pm Gerald McCann checks on his kids, sees that everything is fine and when he walks back he sees an old tennis buddy called Jeremiah (Jez) and they remain talking a feet away from the apartment.
9:10 pm Jane Tanner checks on her kids and walks by Jez and Gerald. As she passes them she sees a man carryng a child in the distance. (Later known as the kidnapper).
9:20 pm Matthew Oldfield and Russel O’Brien get up to check their kids. Matthew comes back after 5 minutes but Russell comes back at 9:55 pm. According to Matthew and Russell it was because his child became sick. Jane left the table around 9:45/9.50 pm to take over the care of the child and Russell returned. As soon as Russell returned, Kate got up to check their kids. So at……….
9.55 Kate checks the kids and at 10 pm everybody hears her screaming that Maddie was gone.

Now, the only way to enter the apartment of Maddie was through the patio door that was located on the back. At the back Jeremiah and Gerald were talking. There were no signs of forced entry at all. Now look at the time between Jane Tanner (Russell’s girlfriend and father of her kids) and Gerald. It is 5 minutes. According to Jane Tanner, the kidnapper took Maddie in 5 minutes time while dodging Gerald and Jez and breaking out on the frontside of the apartment.

What is Jane Tanner saying? That the roadrunner or speedy gonzales took Maddie? No way, that can be done in less than 5 minutes. Another thing was strange:: Jane Tanner gave 3 different descriptions of the kidnapper. The police have 3 different sketches. Jane stated she never saw the kidnapper’s face and that is why the 2nd sketch was blank, yet she accused Robert Murat in Portugal and in England she gave a totally different sketch. Someone that didn’t look like Robert Murat and had a face.

The only one who saw the ahum abductor was Jane Tanner. No one else saw him. And the only one that doesn’t have an alibi is her boyfriend Russell who was absent for at least 40 minutes. Russell stated that his daughter got sick and she had puked so he had to change the sheets while his daughter was fine the whole day and the hotel stated that they never brought new sheets to his room.

Russell O’Brien works with kids. Paedophiles often search jobs around kids plus he talked about paedophelia with a complete stranger on his holiday. Not the subject to pick unless it is on your mind. And his alibi doesn’t add up to the truth. So that is the reason why Jane Tanner made up a story about an abductor. To protect her boyfriend from jail.
There is no abductor. Maddie is dead. The question is: what did Russell O’Brien do with Maddie’s body? In the police files you clearly read Russell wants to talk to Jane before he talks to the police. He constantly made it clear he wanted to know what she said. Why do you think that is? He is insecure that she might have said something.
Russell and Jane are psycho’s who think it is funny to make parents believe their child is alive and create hope! Complete psycho’s !!
