Mental: A History of the Madhouse

An interesting documentary from the BBC which examines the dark history of Britain’s mental asylums and their closure. After the second world war about 150,000 people were hidden away in 120 of such institutions located throughout the country. Now days however most of these patients live in the community and these asylums have been closed. From a collection of interviews and testimonies with patients, nurses and doctors this film explores the change in societies attitude towards mental health.
