Occupy Wall Street

Occupy Wall Street is a people-powered movement that began on September 17, 2011 in Liberty Square in Manhattan’s Financial District, and has spread to over 100 cities in the United States and actions in over 1,500 cities globally. #ows is fighting back against the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations. The movement is inspired by popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, and aims to expose how the richest 1% of people are writing the rules of an unfair global economy that is foreclosing on our future.

The occupations around the world are being organized using a non-binding consensus based collective decision making tool known as a “people’s assembly”. To learn more about how to use this process to organize your local community to fight back against social injustice, please read this quick guide on group dynamics in people’s assemblies.

  1. Wasn’t their great hope for change president at that time?

Today multi-billionaires are taking over and they don’t give a damn about the little people. The difference is they bought the democrat party.

  2. Some of these neo-hippies are quite entertaining.  They should get sponsored by Red Bull Starbucks and CitiBank

  3. is this doc really choppy for anyone else? i can’t watch it.

  4. Sorry for shit spelling do not troll.

  5. WOW MAN, education achieves change, action achieves ghange (violence, huge groups of people) Camp outs do not achieve change.

  6. Laugh all you want.

Make all the generalizations about hippies, ipods and the unemployed you like. Keep demonstrating your small, well-brainwashed brain. It doesnt matter. You know why?

Because this is only the beginning. This movement grows bigger everyday. Even if the OCCUPY movement stops occupying – it is just the beginning. This started as a handful of people on a website. But every day, thousands of people identified with the idea. And it grew. And grew. And grew. And is growing.

It is just the beginning. Something that will NEVER end – until the changes that need to be made – are made.

Almost 2700 locations worldwide. Over 5 million protesters. In just 12 weeks. And growing. That would make it the biggest protest in history?

    Laugh all you want.

  7. Kinda shitt documentary..

  8. The OCCU-TARD movement could have more credibility if the young people journalists interview had a brain cell. ‘We think things should be more equal’ is not a comment that gets people behind your cause…..whatever the hell THAT is.

  9. YAY a festival of Hippies!! never saw that before… oh wait.

  10. I dont know whats funnier. The fact that they carry ipods, or the fact that they steal music. and they talk greed. The problem with the protest is that the big corporations have a right to be there. Weve established a free market where this can happen, and they’ve succeeded. Most billionaires started off with nothing. Im poor as hell so, Im definitely not in the 1%. However, the big businesses are the ones that hire. They pay more taxes, they donate, they actually help the community. Are they fighting the banks? credit is actually a very good thing. I want to own a house sometime..that would require a mortgage. Are they fighting the government? I can understand getting pissed at the ties with the government and the federal reserve; but they’re fighting a deadly sin. Instead of fighting greed, fight sloth and do something to help your community. “long haired hippies need not apply” – so I cut my hair, got a suit and generously employed. ..just a side note. Pot should be legalized but doesnt mean it should be smoked… you  get content with being bored. DOnt be lazy. Use your intellect to help the people. I feel that many do this to feel good about themselves and fuel the anger of having no work. Sure things are shitty, but life’s not bad. Work harder. Peace.

    • You paint a grand picture as do corporations. What you’re missing is the fact that when corporations have governments in their pockets, people suffer. Fair point about the modern protester but it’s a bit of a generalisation.

    • what your not realizing champ is that life isnt created equal under capitalism, not everybody has the same opportunities ,backed by acceptable social conditions and fanily units that enable them to become masters of the capitalist game, therefore they,we, will forever be financial slaves ,working 40-60 a week to pay for what we dont need and just as hard as anybody else ,at full cost of using services because nothing can be written off come tax time and we arnt ever told the truth by mainstream media and government cause it aint in the elites best interests and that aint fair.i like your comment on pot though-very spot on,makes you content with being bored-well put,let your natural spirit sore !

      • What your missing “champ” is that of course everyone isn’t born equal and if we were it would be called communism.  To be honest, I’d rather work my whole life earning just enough to get by on what I deserve then “spread the wealth” to a bunch of lazy hippies who feel getting high and having music festivals is going to change the world.  Life is about challenges and overcoming those challenges.  If you don’t want to work for “the man” and be a “financial slave” any longer start your own business and if your lucky, say 1% of the people, then maybe you’ll make it big, make hundreds of thousands of dollars and can donate all you want to charity and put all your political influence toward a better future.  But I guarantee if some girl with pink hair and nothing better to than to smite you because you are “better off” then she is, demanding you give her equality (ie money, which technically what everyone of those protestors are against) I bet you’ll be telling them to get a job.  Probably we aren’t told the truth in mainstream media, and probably not told the truth about corporate hands in government pockets and thats definitely not fair….But like buddy said up there, nothing is going to change by a bunch of bums sitting in a park, getting high, playing music.  Go to work, contribute to society in a less selfish manner.

It seems sitting around getting high playing crappy music is a bit selfish when you think of it.

    • I love the bit where he says they pay more taxes. Try doing some research

    • not sure if trolling, or that blind

    • What’s wrong with carrying an iPod and how do you know they steal music?  Are you just making that assumption or do you have evidence of theft?

  11. TEPEE or not to pee that is the question—whether it’s nobler in the mind to have a tent near Wall St—or  strike out against a sea of trouble-and by opposing, end them .  Well done…but we-the People -would do better to put our tents outside politicians’ houses—–literally-to ‘where they live ‘    ——————–  Tthe ancephalous but rich,  ‘fruit of Gekko’s loins ‘in their Daddy’s office –on Liberty and 48th St –need to see more than this street theatre                                  Thousands have left  Wall St-who profited from the lead of their ‘Chiefs ‘ below-and who remain wealthy and seeking more or are now….. uncommonly wealthy -on permanant vacation near a golf course-somewhere -neither too hot-nor too cold, but just right. The idols of the latest Apocalypse-included but not limited to the US-variety of-Tim Geithner & Alan Greenspan & Hank Paulson-with that other guy (who looks like a club bouncer -but whose name escapes me-(ah-yes) Lawrence Summers
Their fans of this global X factor game-being.most of the acquisitive ; aspiring ;but least inspiring people of the western world-from DC to Dublin-to Darwin via Dubai.  Alliteration has it’s uses. The banking class were patently greedy which is in their DNA-since early last centuryc 1901.  Little excuse to miss it.   The real blame lies with the power ;privilege and legacy chasers-who are politicians- and the assinine but effective media class-including members of the advertising PR-and marketing ‘industry’-or sons and daughters of Beelzebub.  Rise up, friends—smell the coffee they’re selling you-with everything else-on a burger and resist further corruption.   We may never have a meritocracy- we were fooled with a democracy; the least we can do now is to avoid and deny the hypocrisy of today’s ‘media o cracy-and their friends in power’. Maurice Aherne Ireland
