One Night In Cologne

In the last year more than 1 million asylum seekers, many flocked when the German chancellor Angela Merkel declared the borders open to Syrians. However a panicked Europe is now locking down on who it lets in, the migrant route into Germany now effectively closed, all because of one night in Cologne.

On New Years Eve 2015 hundreds of German women were surrounded, sexually assaulted and robbed by a mob of drunk foreign men, two women were reportedly raped. With the festivities barely over Cologne police put out a press statement that would soon come back to haunt them.

At first the authorities appeared to be pretending that nothing happened. It is thought that because of Germany’s past they quite reluctant to place blame on minorities. This is an examination into the events of that night and how they were handled.
