  1. if cannabis wasn’t illegal they wouldn’t have this problem. Tax and regulate. Inform and educate.

  2. Does Louis Theroux know about this? Oh ,he is too busy in American brothels, American crime neighbor hoods, and spending time with “Wierd Americans”

  3. My notes (all spelling and gramatical errors are mine):
Children are being brought to the UK to work cannabis farms and women to the UK to work as sex slaves.
1000s of people every year are brought the UK for the slave trade. British police have seen an increase in children brought to UK by drug gang.
In 2009, British police raided 7000 cannabis farms
a raided Vietnamese urban cannabis farm; a young boy was arrested while watering and tending to the lighting. The electricity company can clearly see when a cannabis house is using excess power, but often the farm will steal it from the city grid. The boy was a slave, in UK illegally and working off a debt. Of the cannabis farms, 3/4 are Vietnamese organized crime.
Trafficked people come from 135 nations, and forced into slavery to work off debts. At any one time, 2.5 million people are illegally trafficked. 75% are women, 90% of them are in sex trade (trafficked by pimps or sold to work in sex industry).
One woman, “Alice” from Kenya, was promised a better life in the UK (first Liverpool) after being a sex slave in Kenya. But the man lied and forced her into prostitution through fear of him and fear of the unknown in the UK. She eventually escaped to London. 70% of UK prostitutes are foreign, many of which were trafficked to the UK. In London, 65% of foreign sex workers are slaves.
Typical story: man from a woman’s country brings her to UK, has her go with friends who strip her of her passport and makes threats against her family back home. The police have a brothel team to gather intelligence. A sex slave is worth about 100K pounds her year to a pimp.
In the UK, off street prostitution is legal, but running a brothel and living off the proceeds of prostitution is illegal. Vast majority of prostitutes work in massage parlors, and the owners try to stay within the law by maintaining that negotiations over money are strictly between the girl and her client. The sauna in the parlor Ross visited had not been used in a long time.
cramped conditions of a prostitution massage parlor. 10% of UK men admit to paying for sex in massage parlors.
Ross interviewed a brothel maid who said that the Albanian and Romanian men are the worst, freely trading girls.
Next: upmarket sauna in central London.
round bed of this sauna: clean and well-kept
Police interview the girls, offering help and support if they need it. The point is to build confidence between the girls and police.
In 2009, a Lithuanian girl testified that she had been trafficked by a Lithuanian gang operating in the UK. This resulted in a special team for this gang. The gang also trafficked girls for forced marriages and also for forced prostitution.
    Operation Feed:
They arrested the main suspects in a house raid, and raided other houses.
house raid in a tony suburban neighborhood
If the problem is to be eliminated, the traffickers must be confronted in their own countries. Ross went to Romania, Bucharest. Most of the girls here are sold out by someone they trust or love. Organized crime flourished in the post-Soviet era. By 2005, trafficking was so bad that the police targeted the biggest cartel, in operation “Octopus.” Over the course of one night, the police raided 23 houses, rescuing 100 girls, and successfully prosecuted many people.
    A 28 year-old officer ran the operation
Agencies in both send and receiving countries must cooperate. Generally the traffickers use the loverboy method, eventually making a proposal to the girl to go to a trip or move to another country. Once the girl has left, the loverboy is out of the picture, with his money. Traffickers hunt the beach resorts of the Black Sea for prospects. Loverboys often come to the beach and clubs during the summer time.
“Amelie” was lured to the UK by a loverboy. The man forced him into prostitution for 3 months, then sold her to a brothel. Typically, she serviced 8-9 men per day; all the girls in the brothel were Romanian. Amelia eventually escaped when she was able to call home, and Romanian police followed up. Amelie was even permitted to go shopping with the man’s wife. The man got away, though the wife was arrested.
Bucharest’s largest prison: there is a man most responsible for trafficking young women in Romania. His name is Leo Ianescu, and he is only serving 4.5 years. To get his first girl, he used the loverboy strategy. He had sex with her while he prostituted her, then he went back to Romania and got 2 or 3 other girls. In Romania, he was married with 3 kids. He started into the prostitution business for the money; he compared the prostitute to the football, and he seemed to have no qualms.
There has been a dramatic decrease recently in trafficking women in Romanian because of the police work. However, China, Thailand, and Nigeria are trafficking women to the UK more.
The “Poppy Project” tries to help women trying to get out of prostitution in the UK. For them, Lithuanian women also come frequently to the UK. Typically, the women are being sold to men of their same nationality. The police don’t know anything about the Nigerian girls.
One girl, after being promised a fake job, was kept in the prostitution business by her belief in “juju.” Before she left Nigeria, they performed a witchdoctor routine on her and told her she would die if she ran away in the UK. She is trying to get over the juju fear by understanding that the witchdoctor knew about the lie being told her. The police went after this gang and broke the racket up. She wants to kill her trafficker.
There are more slaves in the world today than there were at the height of the slave trade.
