Sex, Death And The Gods

This BBC documentary focuses on the Devadasi young Indian girls denied the chance to marry after being ‘dedicated’ to a deity or temple. Many spend the remainder of their lives involved in prostitution despite laws which make the practice illegal.

    This was a fascinating doc.
Beautiful scenery, squalid slums and the traditional music were a feast for my senses.
A history was recounted, explaining a way of life that was simplistic, disturbing and empowering, all at different points throughout this film.
I tried my best to not allow my Westernized thinking to prejudice me against this small, impoverished society.
I found this story so interesting and I highly recommend it.
