Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days is an independent documentary film that chronicles six Americans with diabetes who switch to a diet consisting entirely of vegan, organic, uncooked food in order to reverse disease without pharmaceutical medication.

The six are challenged to give up meat, dairy, sugar, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, soda, junk food, fast food, processed food, packaged food, and even cooked food for 30 days. The film follows each participant’s remarkable journey and captures the medical, physical, and emotional transformations brought on by this radical diet and lifestyle change. We witness moments of struggle, support, and hope as what is revealed, with startling clarity, is that diet can reverse disease and change lives.

The film highlights each of the six before they begin the program and we first meet them in their home environment with their families. Each participant speaks candidly about their struggle to manage their diabetes and how it has affected every aspect of their life, from work to home to their relationships.

You spastics. Type 1 and congenital diabetes, which is due to genetic defects of insulin secretion, cannot be cured by diet. So sick and tired of you dangerous lunatics posting your “science and medicine”. I wonder how many people you have killed in the past 100 years with your “cures” and “advice”.

    Animals.

Type 1 Diabetes is not caused by genetic defects. It’s a disease caused by an autoimmune reaction in the body that attacks the Beta cells in the pancreas and destroys them, so insulin stops being  secreted. that generally occurs in childhood, but can in adulthood. Some cases are idiopathic (no proven cause) and its not completely clear why it happens, but you can only say some people have a genetic predisposition (certain percentage will develop it.) to this autoimmune reaction occuring in childhood. There are even cases when a viral infection causes the same effect in children.

So before you go calling people names, perhaps you’d have the decency to do some research. I hope whatever job you perform is away from people because you don’t seem to possess any insight into health medicine.

You are incorrect. Genetics are the greatest single cause of type 1 diabetes, and that is very easy to prove. What, do you not believe that genetic defects exist or something? Or that diet can fix genetic defects?

The “doctor” behind this documentary is a homeopath and a reiki master. Dr. Cousens traces the parentage of his diet all the way back to Max Gerson…another psuedoscience “vitalism” fake guru.

Contrary to the claims in this film, science-based medicine (SBM) does not dismiss the contention that diet can have a profound effect on health. The movie argues this typical false dichotomy. It pushes the lie asserting that SBM denies that food matters, that proper eating and a healthy lifestyle can greatly improve health and even reverse some health problems. What SBM demands is the evidence and science supporting claims for what diet can do for health and to ward off disease.

Science based medicine is the only way – and that requires a methodology and credibility not seen in this documentary.

There’s no need for rudeness here. Not one person has died by eating more fruits and vegetables…
However, drugs are the third largest cause of death in America, and diabetics are required to take a lot of drugs.
In any case; did you watch this documentary? Have you researched the studies on this? In the vast majority of cases, diabetics are able to go off ALL their medicine in about 30 days, on top of experiencing better over-all health. It has been proven time and time again, in this case there really is no room for arguing.

This seems to be the Paleolithic diet, the way we’re meant to eat. I go into my local supermarkets and come out with little or nothing because it’s all rubbish. I’m not diabetic but I am Insulin resistant. (precursor to type 2)
    Sooo….. I’m converted, it’s raw for me!
Credit to the people in Arizona, very well done guys and gals. You did GOOD!
To the participants, congratulations and best wishes.
One last point. Doctors are not taught nutrition(at least here in England),so they’re not quite the Gods we’re encouraged to believe they are, and they’re human.(read fallible!)
And dump the burgers people. Please.

Great documentary.  A raw vegan diet (preferably organic) can eliminate a host of illnesses.  Another good one to watch on the subject is Food Matters.  Raw vegan is the best way to stay healthy.  We have learn to slowly rid ourselves of our addictions to cooked foods, which are poisonous to the system over time.

These kinds of “documentaries”, and the people who blindly believe the magic “vitalism” theories within, are dangerous to themselves, and others.

Type I diabetes cannot be “cured” by simply eating a vegan, “raw” diet. And therefore, this documentary is quackery.

Yes! Loved it. Hippocrates said it all: let they food be thy medicine. We can heal so much with raw, organic food grown with love!

good healthy food + healthy environment = healthy happy people!

I think this documentary is a good thing. Those stupid enough to follow
this kind of advice will hopefully take themselves out of the gene pool.
This will make us a more rational and healthy species.
