    For those of us that see 140 degrees and think, that’d be uncomfortable… It’s 140 C. NOT 140 F.
     That’s 284 F.

Amazing that that wouldn’t outright kill a person. A testament to how amazing our bodies bodies are.
(Heat stroke is defined as a body temperature of greater than 40.6 °C (105.1 °F))

Same guy almost killed himself in a competition 7.7.2010. The other finalist (Russian) died and Mr Kaukonen suffered horrible burns. They have explained that his pain receptors had shut down in the heat and he didn’t therefore understand the state he was in.
It is difficult to understand this is the same person: http://www.hs.fi/kuvat/iso_webkuva/horizontal/1135261108124.jpeg
(Pic from an interview couple of months he woke up from artificial coma he was kept in order to save his life).
He cannot go to hot sauna anymore, is still healing from injuries from skin and lungs in autumn of 2011. I wish him well, he did an extreme act and didn’t understand the risks correctly because of his competitive spirit. Now he is using that spirit to heal himself.

For some strange reason, this doc. was oddly entertaining! I found myself cheering the guys on, wondering who’d be the 1st to cave & trying to imagine what being in there feels like. It doesn’t surprise me to read below of the death of a competitor & the terrible burns Kaukonen sustained. They push themselves to the very brink of human endurance. Not for the feint of heart (or asthmatics!)
