That guy in the ‘Hostel’ tee shirt is beyond ignorant! He keeps referring to the indigenous Colombian people as ‘real jungle savages’ & as ‘cannibals’. We’re not told who these people were, what tribe they belonged to & whether or not they actually practised cannibalism! This film appealed to every white racist paranoid fear of indigenous people: depicting them into a hoard of wild, sub-human monsters out to eat hapless white people. They appeared devoid of either culture or humanity. Hostel has forgotten that this entire genre was written, directed and produced by whites for the entertainment of their own people: the indigenous people were merely actors being exploited & misrepresented.

It’s noteworthy that in these films the victims are always attractive young white women & their destruction is used to entertain & arouse. This speaks to something sexually aberrant & deeply misogynistic in western society. Just look at most horror films: the victims are always beautiful young white women in their prime & the grisly murders are designed to arouse the male audience.

As for whether or not this genre truly exists, Luka Rocco Magnotta & his filming of the murder & dismemberment of Jun Lin , which he then uploaded to the internet, renders the question moot.
