The Story of God

1) Life, the Universe and Everything:

Life, the Universe and Everything. Professor Robert Winston examines the roots of religious beliefs in prehistoric societies and how humanity’s sense of the divine developed in different ways in different societies. This BBC documentary will describe particularly the divergence between religions that appear to tolerate a range of deities and those that present strict monotheism. In this light the film looks at the emergence ofthe Hindu concept of Brahman as the supreme being with the many different forms that this can take, and also the ideas of karma and reincarnation central to both the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The docu further explores Zoroastrianism, perhaps the first explicitly monotheistic religion.

2) No God, But God:

This programme looks at religions in the Abrahamic tradition. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are examined in order to understand the ideas about God they share and the issues that divide them. The documentary focuses on the relations between men and God and the numerous issues that arise from these considerations. These may include: how does God want us to live? Does God have a plan for the world and humanity? What about free will? If God created humanity why does God allow humanity to suffer?

3) The God of the Gaps:

This film examines how belief in God had been challenging the modern world by secular ideas, in particular science – how people of all religious beliefs have over the centuries accommodated their faith with the pursuit of knowledge. It explores how advances in astronomy, physics and biology challenged religious beliefs, particularly in the Christian West, and the historic and current debates over Darwin’s theory of evolution. Finally, the documentary looks at those scientific disciplines where a convergence between faith and science seems possible.

  1. I love god so much

  2. I’d never heard anything like that Hindu man’s song/chant before. Very beautiful, does anyone know what he’s saying, or what deity he’s venerating?

  3. “your opinion is bad! and you should feel bad!”

geez, you guys. this is a discussion on a video about religion, not your favorite sports team.

  4. Too much speculation for my liking.

    • Any discussion on this topic is all speculation, unless you take religious text (what ever creed you choose) as fact.  Which in it self is pure blind speculation.  However, if you choose another theory that is not scripture based or more analytical based (like this program).  Lets say a entheogen bases for religious belief, it is once again pure speculation.

I think with a topic like this you cant even quantify rationally which thought process is more correct, as it becomes a personal preference.  All in all maybe more explanation behind such a bland thoughtless statement should be stated, especially after a documentary on such thought provoking topic

      • And so you speculate, too. Your usage of the English language is weak, “a enthnogen bases”? WTF? your grammar is wacko, therefore YOU need an explanation, not Celetialspore. You douchebag.

  5. Guitar you are a Moron ass*Moron ass:

A step up above being just a moron and an idiot.

  6. The whole burning fire for 2000 years… no wonder there’s global warming!?!? Seriously though, “however you define god” case closed. Tell em’ “stop *subsidizing old-world make-believe control of the world’s great minds” and the world will become more real and make sense. BTW, for the next hundred years or more you’ll have one world called Earth to make due with so stop yer yappin’ n’ cryin’ fellow freethought and freeworld peoples!

    • pay part of the cost of producing (something) to reduce prices for the buyer : the government subsidizes basic goods including sugar, petroleum, and wheat.
