The Story of Stuff

“But the truth is, it’s a system in crisis, and the reason it’s a system in crisis is it’s a linear system and we live on a finite planet, and you cannot run a linear system on a finite planet indefinitely.”

From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

  2. I felt like I was being talked to by a second-grade teacher.  Guaranteed this woman is a mother who hasn’t spent enough time around adults recently.

    • Rollinguphill, you are SO awesome!  You should make documentaries of you own!  I bet everybody will love them, because you are so….so…well, just so Awesome!!!

  3. simple as possible,
    great documental.
    and short too.

  4. GREAT DOC! SO TRUE. I have an awsome vacuum from the early 50’s still runs never been repaired and it’s way better than all the new ones. Also with your computer you can do lots of things to make it faster. Mostly computers get bogged down with BS programs running in the background so just wipe it clean.  Also try to repair things that are old. It’s fun and rewarding when you can cheat the system and make you stuff last forever.. Cheers,

  5. we suck alright and will till we boot out current government that are ” owned” by banks, corporation and oil tzars…plain and simple, yes we have to be the starting point,so that mean we have to reduce our consumption and demand better products that do work and last but were does that start… vote start and green next time…

  6. this is a great documentary. Love it. I stopped watching tv 8 yrs ago. because of the commerscials they were just gettting so excessive . ” You Suck!” is a great way of putting it. I stopped buying the non essential goods. I just did not need them. my old stuff was good. You should do a documentary on non drinkers surviving socially in north america. I think that would be an interesting topic too.
