For the first time in 40 years Horizon re-creates a controversial sensory deprivation experiment. Six ordinary people are taken to a nuclear bunker and left alone for 48 hours.   1. substantial numbers of advanced Buddhist practitioners take 3 years of mostly isolated meditation where they have extremely little communication with the outside world. sitting in a cell meditating all day and having their meals delivered.

    the question is WHY a human seeks sensory deprivation. when it is forced as punishment, or done as ‘temporary’ experiment. it can be particularly excrutiating.
