Britain’s Outlaws: Highwaymen, Pirates and Rogues

Crime was endemic for a period of time in the British 18th century, on the open road thieves and robbers would rob with impunity, on the high seas pirates roamed and closer to home rogues threatened the lives and livelihoods of your ordinary citizens. Nowhere was safe, least of all towns and cities where from their own underworld felons robbed, burgled and cheated.

Across the country there was no establish police force and even though the ultimate penalty was death who was there to enforce it. In this three part series historian Dr Sam Willis, wants to explore the world of the British outlaw, the original anti-hero in an age of swashbuckle, daring and style. online casino software for sale https://b2bslots.com/en/

  1. I confess I’ve been more entertained watching grass grow. It does however render an interesting counterpoint to the current bunch of British ‘Outlaws, Highwaymen, Pirates and Rogues’, those being Bankers, Politicians, Stock Market traders and so-called ‘Landed Gentry’. Clearly, very little difference throughout the centuries.
