Higher education in itself is fine. It’s having to borrow a shitload to ‘afford college’- many of which are private, as well as public ones having “internalized” ‘market thinking’, in a way- to “hope to get a job”, in a limited market, w/ ‘oversaturated’ degree-holders, that is the problem.

I graduated with a BA in 2010, and I still barely make 30k (in 2019). Gimme a break… Besides… “averages” can be easily skewed, esp. with outliers. MEDIAN income is key..

Pharmacy and law school, too ?
Again, they have presented no real evidence for this. All they presented where anecdotes such as supposedly some person claiming that it was very difficult to find a job as a pharmacist. Maybe this might be true for some pharmacists, but there is no evidence that there is an oversupply of pharmacy students and lack of available jobs for these pharmacy students.
They also claim that law school is a scam because most people that graduate from law school end up doing low-paying service sector jobs like Walmart and McDonald’s. Again this is very biased and inaccurate information. Yes, some law school graduates end up doing jobs that don’t require a college education right after they graduate law school, but most law school graduates eventually end up doing a job in the legal profession.
Student loan debt will cause hyperinflation ?
Again, there is zero evidence for this claim. Why is that? It is because the only way student loan debt can cause hyperinflation is if student loan debt is dischargeable through bankruptcy. If student loan debt is dischargeable through bankruptcy, then the student loan debt will be forgiven. And once that happens, the taxpayers will have to pay for the forgiven student loan debt. And then the Federal Reserve will have to print an excessive amount of money. Thereby causing hyperinflation of the USA dollar.
But that’s clearly not the case because student loan debt is not forgivable under any circumstances. So there will most likely not be hyperinflation of the USA dollar caused by student loan debt.
Pulling money out of thin air and bailing out banks has caused hyper inflation historically yes. Look at every single collapsed currency. Weimar Germany, and Hungary for example.
You’re missing the point this is one contributor to our already huge deficit spending. Anyone outside of a keynesian frame work would tell you that’s insane. It’s why no other country in the world does it on our level but china.
This documentary features Gerald Celente, Guy McPherson and several other conspiracy theorists that spew a bunch of uneducated drivel. Even though these conspiracy theorists claim to have a college education, they are nonetheless biased and misinformed about college education.
For example, Guy McPherson claims that college is worth avoiding in all circumstances. That’s simply not true. While student loan debt is often a bad thing, you should still go to college in order to get certain white-collared service sector jobs, such as being a doctor, lawyer, teacher, engineer or scientist of some sort. College doesn’t guarantee you a successful career, but without a college degree, you simply have no chance of entering certain professions.
Guy McPherson also claims that college these days is too easy, and that students are getting 4.0 GPA with ease. Again, this is a baseless statement with no real statistics to back it up. There is no proof that college is easier today than it was during the 1970s or 1980s.

Although I disagree with this guy that a college degree is worthless, what he says student loans being almost impossible to pay back is true. Jobs are also difficult to get. College is important because it gives students a chance to transition from childhood to adulthood. Although I’m angry about the ridiculous costs of a college education, I’m more angry about how many of the grants out there are being given to foreign nationals, rather than US citizens.
Only part of what you say is true.Foreign Students are unable to get an United States grant. The grants they get are Paid by their own Governments or some International Company,so who cares?
While this doc raises some valid points, it also makes some really stupid statements. So college education is “less special” because 70% of HS graduates want to go to college? What the heck?! 70% of young American minds want to go on to get a college/university degree and this is a bad thing? So you’d rather praise HS droupouts who leech off of the government through benefits because those kinds of people are “less common”? Countries where only a small percentage of teens and young adults are able to get a higher education weep for your idiocy.
Also, high education isn’t just a “piece of paper”, mmkay? I’m not going to speak on behalf of all kinds of degrees, but even the least “stable” ones such as Fine Art courses help you create connections as you learn, let you “shadow” practising professionals and so much more.
You know why i love going to university, sit and attend a class. Because i can make friend with others students. That’s why. So much self-pleasure and bullshit in this documentary, it make my eyes sweat blood and wanna read books instead

I’m from Belgium and here a year of college costs about 750 dollars (550 euros) in tuition and another 500 dollars for books at a university, or 250 dollars for books at a college. The government pays the difference. I love my country!

Whether it is an advertisement or a documentary it still makes good points. College is worthless when everyone goes and one thing he left out was how many people start college and dont graduate. But they are still saddled with debt and they dont have their pretty piece of paper. Basically, college isn’t for everyone and not everyone should try to go.
Get a freakin’ engineering degree from a regional state college. You’ll pay that off in 5 years.

Lots of this information is only half correct. Like the claim that food prices are being inflated by the overabundance of service sector workers in relation to agricultural workers – a product of the college scam. Actually, if you look at at a sattelite image of the world, you can see that almost all of the good land is being used for farming – almost all available water is being used in many places, and most farms don’t need as many employees because of machinery.
It is a moot point BUT one does not “Graduate collage”. One “Graduates FROM collage”. This strikes my ear like chalk on a chalk board. Maybe you SHOULD go to college!

Im 17 and dropped outta school, im not dumb or anything, i just found the whole system pointless, i was learning shit that i thought wasnt necessary, so i left. I went to a private learning institute that understood students and how fucked the school system is. I got my qualifications there and also learnt financial management, customer service, retail, how to make a resume that employers cant turn down, how to treat people in the work force, as well as maths and english etc. I got both my qualifications in under 1 year where as in school it takes 1 year each to achieve. Im not trying to start any arguments or shit like that, just sayin the world is run by a system, and the system is to keep us simple minded. Our minds are extradornary things, that are limitless to learning. I honestly wish i was in some tribe in africa living my life trying to survive rather than living the system trying to get paid.

I agree with what you’re saying, and totally understand that you do not dig the system which you were born into. I don’t dig it either. That’s totally respectable, and I deeply commend you for thinking outside the box. If more people did what you did, a little introspection, extrospection, and little thinking about the things they are told, instead of taking them for granted, then the whole world would be better.
But consider that a tribal man in Africa, just like you were, was born into a system that he may or may not want to be in. You know what I’m saying? Like, maybe he wants to go to America and go to college!
It’s all so subjective. Both systems are repressive and make you conform and require you to be a certain person, which your soul may or may not be.
Like, what if a tribal African would LOVE LOVE LOVE more than anything in the world, to play a game on a computer, to take photograph or write books or learn about the Greek renaissance? But no, his dad always told him, “learn how to hunt, build up your muscles, know which trees hold the most water, know how to track lions,” etc. But he doesn’t want to be a macho man, a survivor man. Maybe his heart is telling him that he wants to study the poetry of e.e. cummings or the literature of Bernal.
So while you sit here and see all of the cons of industrialization, a person in Africa probably also sees cons to tribal living.
But don’t get me wrong, I’d love to experience living out of pure self reliance, at least for a little while, living a like a bushman.

So don’t go around telling people, “school sucks.” Tell them, “school MAY suck, so watch out, and think for yourself, and form your own opinion, independent of bias or pressure from others.”

I have been seeking a position in research since i got my PhD in 2005. I paid for school as I went working full-time, year-round in finance, and my employer at the time paid for my MBA studies. I lost my finance job in 2007. Now I work as a pro Dominatrix for cash, and there are many weeks when I make $0, my rent is often late, and I’m broke, but happy. I feel I can say education in this country is worth shit. I also can say this documentary is biased and not that well informed. The best thing to do would have all education be by the state (such as it is most of Europe, colleges are run like high schools) and I do believe all taxpayers should pay in. However, no one can argue all college has become for-profit and worthless, and I hope this opens people’s eyes.

What a load of garbage. Another example of right wing/faux libertarian fear mongering for financial gain. There has a heavy handed bias toward deregulation and for privatization. Skip to the end of the documercial and you’ll see what this is all about. Selling gold and silver. A lot of the other comments are correct, there is definitely some truth to be found here. But it comes in the form of using the truth to tell lies. I especially agree that this should be taken down. It’s nothing more than propaganda funded by a private company for private gain. Save yourself the time on this one.
I read some of the other comments one of the comments by “Bbn” said “you have to have a four year degree to work as a manager of Toys R Us, so encouraging people to not go to college is just destroying the education and possibilities of young american.” First, I am almost positive that you don’t need a four year degree to work as a manager of Toys R Us, were did he even come up with that. I’m fairly sure that a manager of a Toys R Us, was probably an employee who simply advanced up the corporate ramp and even if you make it to manager that’s probably about as far as you’re going to reach. Also, if you used student loans to get that four year degree to manage a Toys R Us, your probably gonna be at least $150,000 in debt. If you were this manager at Toys R Us you would probably make roughly 40k a year. If you take out all the other expenses (including debt on other purchases) you need out of that 40k a year you’ll probably be left with roughly around 15k. Obviously you won’t give all of that 15k to the student loans each year so with that debt you’ll also gain interest. So that debt from those student loans would result in you accumulating a debt that would probably take at least 10 years to pay off (if you’re lucky). The government might give the manager of the Toys R Us a break if she cannot make the payments on there student loans and lower her payments or ignore them all together resulting in the tax payers paying for the schooling of this manager of a Toys R Us. I don’t know what “Bbn” thinks about the american tax payers paying for the schooling of a job that most people would consider to be mediocre, but I and many others would be and are angry about it. In the second part of what “Bbn” said was “so encouraging people to not go to college is just destroying the education and possibilities of young american.” We won’t have possibilities if the dollar collapse which it will, people who truly wish to educate themselves can do so online or in books. Any information given to you by a professor is more then likely somewhere online or is written in a book. College is a wasteful thing that encourages people spend huge amounts of money to receive a piece of paper that says they know what there talking about. If they want to know what they’re talking about all they have to do is research, the internet and books contain all the information you would ever need on the subjects that some college graduates (such as Bbn) believe can be found only in colleges. The only thing unique about college is that you get to discuss the things you’re studying with an expert. It is great to discuss things you’re trying to understand with someone who already has done there research, but discussing things and talking to someone shouldn’t cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. True education is free.
