  1. plus to give these fortune 500 parasites some credit… they did warn the people that if yall didn’t pay for the stadium they were outty. So even though I don’t agree with stadiums paid for by tax dollars and then the people have to pay again to go watch the game only so that rich  guys get richer but thats the American dream isn’t it?

  2. Yeah it stinks for all fans of basketball, seattle was by no means my favorite team but I enjoyed their style of play during the 90’s Okies game makes me sick as do most teams philosophies now days. The zone ruined b-ball so at least seattle aren’t missing much any more.

  3. “seatleites” don’t have room to complain they forfeited the team. Anyone who says that the franchise would have had the same success there that it has experienced in OKC is just bitter, two players played in Seattle and one of them for an average rookie season. It IS Oklahoma City’s team and this documentary is whiny.

  4. What saddens me is that my 3 month old daughter will never get to experience going to a game or watching them on tv. I still remember watching us play the bulls in the finals when I was 8 years old in my mothers classroom while she was working. I used to have a mural on my wall as a child of me playing basketball against Kemp. I about lost it when Durant was signed, childishly thinking that would change the tide. Just a sad sad video to watch.

  5. I was exposed to the Super Sonics through NBA 2006 on the good ‘ol PS2 and as a fairly ignorant basketball fan I decided this was my team. Allen, Lewis, Wilcox, Collison, Ridnour, I freekin loved these guys, starting catching all the games on our limited ESPN and actually went out of my way to buy a Lewis jersey (you would not believe how hard it was to find one here). It’s disgusting what has happened, it’s even more disgusting that it just seems ruined forever. I have no idea who the hell to support now, so I think I’ll just keep playing with the Sonics on my Playstation. Thanks for the fantastic doc, RIP Sonics, RIP Sasquatch, go die in hell Bennet. Big love from Johannesburg, South Africa.

  7. one hour and 18 minutes in, david stern says that other teams in the NBA have state of the art facilities which allow them to compete in the league. I thought the NBA was about having the nicest game, not the nicest gym

  8. As an Oklahoma resident and Thunder fan, I watched this to educate myself about the history of the Sonics. I was all in, until the hillbilly music started playing when they talked about OKC. I can only assume this is the way people from the northwest see Oklahoma. How pretentious!
So, Seattle, keep underestimating us. How’s that working for you so far?

    • How would you feel if someone stole a 40+ year franchise right out from under your nose? You’d probably act the same way. Next time, try and weigh the positives with the negatives. Oh no! Someone made fun of where I live. Get the f*** over it.

  9. The Thunder made it to second round of the NBA playoffs this year, Durrant is one of THE best in the NBA right now. Seattle would have been a great franchise if they had just stayed put. Sad that money can motivate people to destroy a city’s passion. This is a lesson for not only sports fans, but for the people that want to hold onto truth in America.

  10. Ok, after watching this .. I feel bad for the truely passionate Supersonic fans. OKC Thunder, and WTF was the mayor asshole thinking selling the Sonic’s history? Definition of an ASS HOLE.
David Stern, Shultz, and Bennet are all shmucks.

    • Azha–Although I appreciate your use of the word “cunt” (best word in the English language), I have to disagree with you.

I’m a lifelong Seattleite, just old enough to remember when the Sonics won the championship. I have great memories and photos of my older siblings dressed, head to toe, in Sonics’ championship gear. Although the team hadn’t won a championship in ages, it was a source of passion and pride for people who actually grew up in Seattle.

The team’s sale and the sale of the team’s history is a sore subject among Seattleites who look around only to find their city unrecognizable. What happened to the Sonics is not unlike what’s happened to the city over the past few decades.

Seattle is, to a certain extent, emblematic of the West. For many years, it’s been viewed as a blank canvas–a place where transplants can move and start fresh. Throughout the mass relocation process, the city’s history has been largely ignored, its historical buildings razed. Monied interests won with the Sonics, just as monied interests have been triumphant in refashioning the city into what is now an antiseptic, dot com snoozefest.

For those who remember Seattle as an interesting place with a bit of grit, being reminded of the Sonics’ sale is like pushing on a bruise.

Seattle is now “burning with boredom.”
