Confessions of a Serial Killer: Jeffrey Dahmer

In February 1994, NBC’s Stone Phillips met serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer for his only network television interview. He traveled to the prison with Jeffrey Dahmer’s father, Lionel, and his step-mother, Shari.

An innocent Midwestern boy and a withdrawn and peculiar teen, Jeffrey Dahmer lived a ghastly double life as an adult, ultimately becoming known as one of the most notorious and grotesque serial killers in America.

Dahmer killed 17 young men, and even turned to cannibalism. Through an exclusive interview with Dahmer, as well as with his mother and father, this program takes an extended look inside the mind of a serial killer.

  1. People only care if you were killed by a serial killer, because my cousin Orlando was murdered in a lake at a camp by multiple people, and no one gave a fuck.

  2. People only care about him because, he rejects being normal.

  3. To blame one parent over another, or even to blame his parents at all is missing the whole picture. Dahmer became a killer through a sequence of factors and events in his life. If his mother was given morphine then this may well have impacted on the development of his brain in the womb. Both his parents may have passed on genetic predispositions, they both clearly have anxieties. The things they could have done to help Dahmer as a child were things a lot of parents wouldn’t even consider because of the societal norms in many places. His parents clearly had an unhealthy relationship that they should have ended sooner. The lack of openness and lack of acceptance for homosexuality led Dahmer to repress and keep secrets. Children absorb their surroundings, tension creates tension.

The most important thing to remember here is that the human mind is not infallible, something incredibly traumatic may well have happened to Dahmer at a crucial time in his development. Children can repress these events so much that their subconscious develops what is known as an ego defense mechanism. This means the child can forget the experience, but the subconscious mind cannot just get rid of it, so it manifests within the child’s personality. This is what leads to psychological disorders such as psychopathy, anti-social disorders, and internalised conditions such as multiple personality. The child doesn’t know that this is happening, to the child it’s normal. Dahmer will never be able to analyse the causes of his behaviour because to him a lot of what he did and felt wasn’t abnormal.

  4. his father is the one to blame due to he is so welling to blame his wife. his father is self center and acts so blameless. the pain I see in her face when she talked about her husband. the things that was said about him self about thinking of murder and fire, and the control trip he had. may be he should have been a better father when he was a kid. But I see this kind of thing a lot, some men that treat there wife badly and their son’s grow up and treat there lover this way. you are to love some one not control them. The bad mother is when a son grows up a mommy’s boy and wants his wife to be his mommy. how would I have ever known? the father asked. and Jeff goes in to his dance of its not his fault they are not to blame. I get anger at them blaming my parents, and his father have no problem blaming his wife. the pills his wife was on the fights in the home. when he says he didn’t feel a countable to any one. His father didn’t feel countable to what he did. His father says he didn’t have faith for a long time. But who is to blame or not evil and mental illness is ready. It comes down to the mind ever one has thoughts that pop’s up and if you let them in let them be ready I think this is what happens. One killer said he use to walk up to the line many times, than one day he cross it, and he never when back. I think we need to have a on going talk with our kids you got to know and make them talk to you feel with them understand with them. control over one self is all we have in life. It is the only power we have in life. when the father was asked about sexual abuse he took a deep breath and looked odd. losing control is a powerful fear of his father. and that he was bully by other kids. But we will never know. Our kids become us. we are starting to see God is in jail for that is where they always find him. May be that is why we have so many killing God locked up and taken out of ever thing.

  5. Jeff obviously got his problems from his mother. She clearly is narcissistic and has Borderline Personality Disorder, and she refuses to even entertain the idea that she could be to blame. She sounds like a domineering crazy bitch that would no doubt drive any kid to insanity. She even wrote a book about how SHE was being picked on, how appropriate.

  6. Religion is required for morality…. for psychopaths

  7. If you’re looking for the full version of this, Documentary Addict has it.

  8. He seems pretty intelligent to me,and therfore i think(him being a good lier)he simply used the i found jesus christ as my saviour,as a last attempt, however bleak,to get pardoned in some way by(freedom,a man can dream cant he?)the systym!I dont think he ever believed in a god(how can u anyway?)And i do agree with what he said, that people blame there circumstances as a cop out!i think nothing really that dramatic happended in his life to lead to what he did.I do think the fact that he could not talk about his sexuality and the hernia thing(throw in a dash of the arguments of his parents, and other family drama mabey)has alot to do with his need to control!blah blah blah blah i need ….to…ki……..

  9. Leave it to a killer to find God. That is a cop out in my opinion. Finding god doesn’t make what he did ANY better. If there is a god, I hope do god he does not let someone like him into heaven, even if he repented. He is a scary man but he seems so normal and intelligent when he speaks, it proves that a killer could be anyone.

    • No,it does not make what he did any better by finding God.It isn’t suppposed to.

Not for you or any – supposed Christian who like to say what they think God should do – person to say what God should do and if you repent you are supposed to be forgiven.

  10. Why didn’t they fry this sick subhuman slimeball?

  11. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST…CRAP!!

  12. Thank god he denounced atheism! In fact, it would be very creepy if he revealed a mind of reason. The guy is deeply disturbed and insane. It’s much easier to accept the fact that he believes in the deluded ideas of religion and fantasy. That part of his confession at least rings true!

  13. At the second he said: “Accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my saviour”… I lost interest…
And started to write this comment and think i’m not even gonna watch the next parts of the video.

  14. point is weather you feel this way or that about the situation no matter how strong, we all have a choice and no body can take that away. the real question is what is right and what is wrong.

  16. This is so disturbing and the fact that a facebook link is asking me to like it or not………. Ummmmmm if you say you like this does that make you messed up? Anyways I remember one part in particular the part where he says if only I hadnt lived out my fantasy of the hitchhiker and i gotta say this seems to be the only thing serial killers have in common. Weird fantasies. I guess we all have things we think about that are a little off beat It’s probably best that we all take a step back and evaluate our wants and needs and see if they are right or wrong and what the long term implications of living out such things could be. This is weird but generally compelling from a human nature point of view.

  17. Why dont they just put these kind of people ina a glass box and donate them to psychology departments?

  18. Wow, Stone Philips’ lack of gravitas is blatantly obvious in retrospect.  An it’s not just time that makes his questions seem silly either.  Plenty of the great interviewers (Cavett, Rose, King) questions still seem relevant decades later.  This guy is a Himbo.
Also, JDahmer:  “the theory of evolution cheapens life…”
    WTF??!!

  20. “For Dahmer to put his actions down to a lack of god in this life IS a cop out…”

Of course, if theists didn’t have god in their lives there would be nothing to keep them from killing and eating people they pick up in gay bars. You mean it isn’t like that for you?

  24. SUPER annoying editing. Very American

  25. Dahmer’s mother comes across as a sniveling victim, bleating on and on about how terrible life is for her. Disgusting.

  26. This interview is so disturbing. how can he believe in creationism?

  27. He feels that blaming your upbringing or social-economical situation is a cop out. But he has no problem blaming his atheistic upbringing and evolution??? I grew up in an atheistic environment and I have very strong moral values and I am a very big defender of human rights. I don’t need the imagined wrath of a magical sky daddy to make me behave this way. It is simply natural to me. For Dahmer to put his actions down to a lack of god in this life IS a cop out and I am offended by this bullshit. But who cares about offending atheists? Serial killers certainly don’t…
