We look at why the debate over gun control is so polarized and travel to West Virginia – a place where shooting guns is a sport that has been passed down over generations – to find out what fuels the love for guns in this country.
Are American people as divided as their politicians? The Newtown shooting, which left 20 school children and six teachers dead, has dragged the issue of gun control back into the national agenda.
For the first time in years, US politicians are discussing serious gun control measures. But millions of people in the country’s inner cities live with the threat of gun violence on a daily basis.
In Baltimore, one of the most dangerous cities in the US, the police have re-framed their ‘war on drugs’ as a ‘war on guns’. We travel to Baltimore to meet those trying to stop gun crime and others who say owning a gun is sometimes a matter of survival.
Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance. I must say that you’ve done a amazing job with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Opera. Superb Blog!

Dave68:
Funny how you can condemn homophobia and racism and not see your own glaring nationalist bias. Funnier still how you lump every gun owner into the “mentally ill” category — a very fashionable, and original argument. Cool ad hominem, bro.
Try educating yourself on both sides of an issue before posting an ill-informed wall of text. These types of knee-jerk responses and opinions formed entirely out of emotion and bias are dangerous and illogical. Pull it together, mate. Cheers.

What fuels the obsession with guns is paranoia. You see America was basically founded by a bunch of people who didn’t fit into society in the UK. They were essentially the equivalent of what conspiracy theorists are to mainstream culture in the USA, outcasts, freaks, bipolar, paranoid sorts. This is also why there are relatively high amounts of crazy conspiracy theorists in the USA. It’s probably also why everyone else in the world hates Americans, nothing has changed since they arrived.
So yeah, these people were outcasts in the UK and decided to go to another country (America). Now you have about half of 310 million people who are descendants of these paranoid freaks. This is also why racism & homophobia are so rampant in populations of Americans where the genetic pool is still close the original crazies.
Fit in? You’re are an dumb ^^sh. Read the history of the US; please. Sounds like you didn’t get past the 8th grade.
uh-oh… somebody is lonely and in crisis…
