Amy

A close and personal depiction of the life and death of the late British musician Amy Winehouse, directed by Asif Kapadia. Using archival footage and home videos we get a real sense for who Amy Winehouse was and what she was about, how her career began to blossom and the road which ultimately led to her death at just 27 years old.

The film itself starts off with a 1998 home of a fourteen year old Winehouse singing along with her long-time friend Juliette Ashby. From here on out we are taken on a linear journey through Amy’s life stopping off a key moments in time, examining the creative process which went into releasing her debut album “Frank” in 2003, her troubled relationships, self-harm, bulimia, the controversial media attention and her abuse of drugs and alcohol.

Through a number of interviews with friends, family and lovers we get a wide perception of who she was as a person and what drove her to make such great music. Her abuse of drugs and alcohol would eventually lead to her death on the 23 July 2011 and with this the world lost an amazing talent.
