Deadliest Roads: Nepal

Jumla, located in Western Nepal is a small town perched at an altitude of 2000 metres above sea level. It’s one of the worlds poorest regions. 10,000 people live here, virtually forgotten by the rest of civilization, the only connection to the outside world is the road to Surkhet which is 300 kilometres away at the bottom of the Kalikot valley, it’s and awful nightmarish road.

In this film we follow a 19 year old driver and his 16 year old assistant who’s job it is to transport anything that the valley produces, on this road it is best not to travel alone. As the inhabitants of this region fight against the perils of monsoon season. Teams such as these two strive tirelessly to provide for the cut-off villages.

The weather can form mud ditches which trap vehicles and don’t release them without a fight. The Shaman witch doctors are always on hand to chase away bad spirits and watch over the meager population of Nepal.
