In Asia and the Middle East there is said to be more than 15 million women working as servants in private households, the working conditions for many of these women is said to be comparable to slavery. Many of whom have been recruited by shady employment agencies who ignore reports of or perhaps themselves exploit, mistreat or even sexually abuse their workforce.
It is estimated that around 45 million people worldwide are subjected to some form of modern slavery, most of these cases can be found in Asia and the Middle East. Many of these women have migrated in search of work to support their families elsewhere, it is these women who are more prone to abuse due to their need for work.
This film takes a peak behind the façade of this form of modern slavery and shows how migrant workers in Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia are joining forces to fight for better working conditions.
