Jesus of Siberia

More than two decades ago, a 29-year-old patrol officer and talented painter named Sergey Anatolyevitch Torop publicly declared himself reborn as Vissarion.
Since then he’s fostered a “unified religion” that is a vast amalgam of Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, pagan, and other spiritual beliefs.

Just about everything Vissarion has ever said or thought has been recorded in the never-ending Last Testament, which currently spans ten volumes and thousands of pages.
More than 5,000 followers around the world consider him a messiah of sorts, known as “the Teacher.” They also believe that the universe has two origins (one spawned nature, the other the human soul) and in something called the “outer-space mind” (aliens, basically), and that the end of the word is nigh.

  4. I can’t imagine more perverted and more against Bible being thing. And surprise! They didn’t even mention Bible and when Bible was brought up, this fake thing was so clumsy in his words.
Biblically, he can not be Christ!

    Bible, Matthew 24:23-31 (KJV)
“Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

    Bible, Revelation 1:7 (KJV)
“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”

    Bible, Revelation 19:11-16 (KJV)
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

  5. As far as cults go this one seems really nice.

  6. Creepy – since when has a cult and it’s leader EVER been a good thing?

  7. @ tracy

wow. not sure how you gathered all that from a 25 minute doco which barely revealed anything. think you need to go get a life.

  8. @ Rick:

That’s a good question. Unfortunately, the answer is simply because there’s no money in it, too much freedom for the spiritually inclined & no way to twist it into fear of retribution (in this world &/or some imaginary next one). Whenever so-called ‘spirituality’ emerges, there follows a veritable nut house cast of gurus, guides, psychics & charlatans peddling spirituality gear we all need in order to do spiritual stuff. In short, it fast degenerates into a series of ‘mini religions’ motivated by profitability & the potential for fame & power.

  9. I have a sneaky suspicion that good oul Jesus here is receiving back-alley hand jobs from the choir members….

  10. Why can’t man have spirituality without all the twisted dogma that comes with it?

  11. I’m not particularly religious but even I consider this to be almost offensive, certainly extremely ridiculous.

  12. Despite the fairy tale quaintness of his Hobbitton village, the emphasis on so-called healthy natural living & the so-called biblical garb, I smell a seamy underbelly of decay here. This pied piper of Hamelin, who allegedly provides answers to life’s big questions doesn’t provide any real answers at all! In fact, he never gives a straight answer to a straight question. He is vague, condescending & talks in circles. Why the secrecy, the handlers & henchmen? Money has no meaning there? Perhaps not for the brainwashed masses, but the hillside palace The Dear Leader resides in & all those hectares of land were not free.

There’s something very Jones Town-like about his isolationism, salt-of-the-earth ‘we’re oh so humble yet better than everyone else’ 80% of humans are mentally ill (a statistic he weaves out of thin air) philosophy. His approval of suicide & Armageddon preaching are a potentially lethal combination.

His misogyny relegates 50% of humanity to submission & obedience to the other 50% based upon a chromosomal difference. Since when does a woman’s health suffer if she’s in a position of leadership? Will this man ever be required to provide a single shred of evidence to support his claims? There are only crafts, trades & occupations: there’s nothing intrinsically gendered about anything whatsoever.

Men invent such divisions (claiming all truly profitable & desirable occupations for themselves) & impose these beliefs & practices, though a series of nefarious tactics (brainwashing, shaming, brute force, oppressive legislation, positive & negative reinforcement & disenfranchisement, superstitious fear-mongering etc.) onto humanity;to its detriment.

The interviewer, who claims that ‘the vissarion’ looks & is ‘Christ-like’ would do well to remember that Jesus was not a white European blue eyed WASP featured hippie. This man is aping the image people see on calendars, in western art & in cinema as representing Christ: an image appealing to whites, reflecting an idealized version of their own features & so-called Aryan fantasies.

What’s with the walking in slow motion & using iconograpghic hand gestures? The carefully cultivated aura of mystery & separateness this man has ensconced himself in is a clever ruse. In order to gaze upon his lofty abode, one must look up. The man himself rarely appears & when he does, he spouts platitudes, folk wisdom & familiar cliches.

Many of his followers grew up (& currently reside under) an oppressive regime that discourages any meaningful dissent, is secretive & controlling. Basic human rights, gender equality & critical thinking are all but nonexistent. Their society is in a crisis of chronic poverty, ill health & alcoholism. In short, these are traumatized & vulnerable people to whom a simplistic so-called spiritual escapist ‘it’ll all be over soon; do as I say & you’ll be saved’ message would quell their fears & be appealing. His pastoralization of society, romanticization of the peasentry & anti-higher education stance is culturally familiar yet dangerous. How ironic that his spokesperson who ‘informs’ outsiders is a female lawyer. Why not an alfalfa farmer or a broom maker?

Who provides medical care to those in need or must one be able bodied & in splendid health to reside there? In the end of the documentary, the host spews some unctuous blather about there being ‘a place where all are accepted’ or some such nonsense. I wonder what would happen if a few hundred non-white followers were to attempt to settle in this all white town. Or *GASP* a few gay couples!

SURE all are accepted: just check your freedom & your ability to think & question at the door, give your worldly goods (your MONEY!) to the cause (just make the cheque out to the Jesus guy) & join his suicide-approving, Armageddon ‘the aliens are coming’ lunatic cult. He’ll erase all your fears (using brainwashing & reeducation through physical labour) answer all your questions (with riddles & by not letting you really ask any) turn your wives into pliant servants & your daughters into mindless vulnerable playthings.

I agree with the comment posted above: there was something disturbing about the slender little girls (seemingly selected for their beauty) with their short white satiny skirts, their bare legs exposed, singing the praises of this smiling old con-artist while many men looked on.

Using my mystical alien prognostication powers, I foresee disenchanted escapees telling horror stories of frightening abuses & ultimately mass murder/suicide. The vissarion will bring about their Armageddon. WAKE UP & SMELL THE CAPPUCINO, FOLKS: YOUR EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!

  13. This Jesus is almost certainly sleeping with many of the women, and probably young girls. That’s just what tends to happen. It’s just statistically very likely.
