Networked Society ‘On the Brink’

In On The Brink we discuss the past, present and future of connectivity with a mix of people including David Rowan, chief editor of Wired UK; Caterina Fake, founder of Flickr; and Eric Wahlforss, the co-founder of Soundcloud. Each of the interviewees discusses the emerging opportunities being enabled by technology as we enter the Networked Society. Concepts such as borderless opportunities and creativity, new open business models, and today’s ‘dumb society’ are brought up and discussed.

  4. Propaganda! Bright new future with internet! Forget abou the economic crisis and ecological crisis as well! Buy your super shiny new gadget and be cool…
No, this is not how will our future will look like, although they prestented it with an effort…

    • Going to agree, this documentary is full of ignorance and only really focuses on potential marketing and how happy these people are to see that their investments are working so well, with complete disregard to any real life situations.

Modern technologies are designed to be obsolete every few months now, which not only is a financial BURDEN on consumers but it creates a constant need for mining and manufacturing which are destroying the global ecology.

As far as I can tell, this step toward “the future” via the internet has great potential. But there are fundamental flaws in the thinking of this documentary, that people will use the internet to communicate relevant information (not to say some don’t, but the majority certainly does NOT). In many cases I have witnessed people simply waste hours, days, months and even years with things which don’t help society at all.

      • Agree completely.  I also loved that smug German punk who sneered about how current businesses are trying to hold onto what they are familiar with and will be crushed.  What kind of world idolizes crushing others?

  5. Like the printing press 600 years ago, the internet is going to catapult social evolution.
