Scotland Votes: What’s at Stake for the UK

Scotland is close to a momentous decision about its future, the stakes could not be higher. Scotland will vote to stay with or become independent from the United Kingdom on September the 18th of 2014, the campaign north of the boarder has been raging for months, but in much of the rest of the UK the silence has been deafening. If the Scots decide to quit the union what would it mean for the 55 million plus living in the ret of the UK? Scottish independence could have far reaching consequences for Britain’s nuclear deterrent, its armed forces and economy.
