The Nanking Massacre, commonly known as the Rape of Nanking, was an infamous genocidal war crime committed by the Japanese military in Nanjing, then capital of the Republic of China, after it fell to the Imperial Japanese Army on December 13, 1937.
The duration of the massacre is not clearly defined, although the violence lasted well into the next six weeks, until early February 1938.
During the occupation of Nanjing, the Japanese army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, looting, arson and the execution of prisoners of war and civilians.
Although the executions began under the pretext of eliminating Chinese soldiers disguised as civilians, it is claimed that a large number of innocent men were intentionally identified as enemy combatants and executed—or simply killed outright—as the massacre gathered momentum.
A large number of women and children were also killed, as rape and murder became more widespread.

Yes, this film has repetitive content. But it is well done. All men everywhere are capable of what Japanese soldiers were guilty of. That is why this film should be absorbed, as horrific as the facts reported are, and as unsightly as the images shown are. Atrocities like this are possible at any time and at any place. Just look how things got out of hand during hurricane Katrina in the USA and the crimes that were committed there. The sin in man needs only the circumstances in order to its rising up, nothing more.

This was hard to watch because the footage and photos were from 1937, very grainy and dark. And the narator droned on and on in a monotone. The content was very repetative and so unerving. Very unpleasant and upsetting subject matter. I’m so glad I wasn’t there.

I don’t believe every documentary is 100% correct. When it comes to historic events, we will need a much more objective attitude because our minds will be clouded by the prejudice that has been injected by the media for decades.
