Uganda’s Silent War

Shocking documentary about child soldiers in Uganda, Africa. Winner of the Robert F Kennedy Journalism Award, in HD.

Child abuse. Rape. Torture. Abduction. Death. They are the very stuff of nightmares. In Northern Uganda, though, they are not the groundless fears of imaginative children. Here the nightmare is real.

Every night, 7 and 8 years old kids can be abducted by rebel soldiers. Once taken, the little boys may be forced to fight, burn their village houses and even kill their own parents or siblings. The little girls may be raped and forced to serve as “wives” to the rebels until they die or escape.

Even if they make it back to freedom, though, the girls must battle their psychological and physical damage, and may well be infected with AIDS. If the boys escape, they must battle their memories: a mixture of fear and, even worse, unspeakable guilt at the atrocities they participated in.

  1. A few comments pointed the finger at God. God will rightously judge the world in His time. These evils point to what is in fallen man. I thank God that the time of His judgment is not yet, for often i find myself in contridiction to His ways. “Pray for your enemies do good to them that hate you.” I have a long way to go, but thanks be to God He provided the Way to be reconciled. Lord have mercy and help use to do what your calling us to do in this matter.

    • >. God will rightously judge the world in His time.

God has no right to judge the world; if he created it this screwed up and created man capable of doing this and knew this was going to happen, then he needs to answer for his crimes. I suggest the death penalty as appropriate.

      >These evils point
to what is in fallen man.

These evils point to the non-existence of a god in the first place; a god that loves children wouldn’t let this happen.

  2. This is just insane, kids with guns, there isn’t really another choice for them, its depressing.

  3. The LRA may have devasted west nile, but the NRM and the Ugandan Military are the real thugs dressing up as rebels and burning down entire refugee camps, raping mothers and girls, and abducting their own child soldiers. And they do this so well at the end of the day, the LRA is blamed and yet they were supposedly pushed into DR Congo some time ago?? Northern Uganda are slaves to the UPDF who are murdering the people they claim to protect. Tribalism can never be a solved issue in Uganda as long as this oppressive idiot is dictator.

  4. Thanks bud. Not bad submissions you got here. Have some more sites to link to with more information?

  5. The LRA is now active in southern Sudan, DR Congo and Central African Republic. There they are continuing the same way they were in Uganda: the mutilations, abductions, rape and killing are still going on today!!! This is NOT over!!! If you would like to take action and demand something to be done about this, there are ways! On September 21st 2010 we are organising Barefoot Peace Walk in London, UK. We hope the walk will be a platform to raise awareness of the atrocities and the need for something to be done. Have a look on barefootpeacewalk.com . This is your chance to do something about this!

  6. Poor babies. God must weep at the way we treat each other. Those kids never have a chance. The saddest part is the alternative of starving to death.

    • and this is why relgion is so dangerous…because some people say they are a prophet and slaughter and kill and others beieve them…so many people have died under the name of god…the world would be better off without a so called higher power

    • Jim, no offense, but if God is all powerful, all knowing and all good, why does he let this shit happen? Surely he could stop it if he existed? The reality is we are competing organisms subject to the laws of natural selection, just like all life on this planet. And some people will use children and any number of other cruel methods to get ahead.

So either God is a heartless, selfish entity or we are, take your pick.

At least we don’t claim to be perfect and love all others unconditionally….

      • I don’t think you have the grasp on the point of God and free will, God gave people free will to act as they would, he does not interfere, your choice to believe or not or behave in a ‘rigteous’ or perhaps moral way is yours aswell, as is whether people decide to claim they do good or bad in his name. If you didn’t have freewill given to you, you’d be complaining, until you have proof that there is no higher power, have some respect.

        • >I don’t think you have the grasp on the point of God and free will,

With all due respect I don’t think you’ve read the large volume of literature on the subject or else you wouldn’t use an explanation that’s already been tritely dismissed.

          >God
gave people free will to act as they would,

God is all-powerful, right? Then God could have given people free will and the disinclination to draft child soldiers. In addition, does the existence of my local police force preclude free will? Free will is being able to make a choice; it’s not the ability to carry it out.

          >he does not interfere,

Then why does everyone pray to him? Of COURSE he interferes – every religion with a deity in all of written history believe that the favor of their god(s) could be won through ritual, sacrifice, etc. That’s the POINT of a god – if he doesn’t do *#*$, then he’s useless and you may as well worship the local fireman who’ll do more for you than an all-powerful being that chooses to do nothing in the face of horrible evil. Epicurious asked thousands of years ago if god is all-good but unable to stop evil, is he really a god, if god is all-powerful but doesn’t want to stop evil then why worship him, and if he’s both all-good and all-powerful, why is there evil? It hasn’t been adequately answered yet and has been the downfall of many a believer, including theologians like Bart Ehrman.

          >until you have proof that there is no higher power, have
          some

          >respect.

Hee hee. Seriously? No, the burden is on you to prove that there is. Until then, it’s both scientifically and as shown here, logically ridiculous. It WILL be laughed at just like belief in leprechauns and unicorns. Silly things don’t get respect. If your God exists he is evil for creating a world in which he knew children would be drafted as soldiers when he could have created the world any way he wanted – such as not allowing people who would do this to be born in the first place. Free will simply isn’t an answer; no theologian has found one (except for those who choose to reject the idea that god is all-good or all-powerful).
