Isaac Newton is a perfect example of genius freak. His sound part of mind discovered laws of gravity. His religious part delved in alchemy and other bullshit. We praise him for the first one. its blows my mind now how Atheists bash Christians all day, and assume that Faith=Ignorance, the Bible is truth, the problem is it has been translated from an ancient language that doesn’t mesh with our bland modern english, and things of Gods nature are outside of words. My mom is an open, honest, agnostic, hippie. At 19 read the bible to disprove it. The fact is the Bible is full of prophecy that continues to hold true to this day, specifically pertaining to the Jewish people. Also, Isaac Newton (genius) was a devout Christian who spent his last day in a loony bin because he was convinced there was some crazy code in the original text of the Bible and it drove him bonkers. I think that is a gross over generalization. My whole family consists of devout Christians, just because I don’t count myself among them doesn’t mean I bash them. I don’t have any friends, actually, who bash at all. I’m sorry for your negative experiences though, I can see how that may have distorted your view.

This inspired me during my deconversion the first time i watched it and continues to inspire me today.
Try Ayahuasca, that will provide some insight. I had the equivalent of a near death experience and witnessed the birth of me from a disembodied spirit into human form. When I got back from the retreat I broke my neck to go to church, and I now pray every night. No joke, all the things you don’t get in normal reality you sure as heck get when you are taken into the expansive universe. It was daunting, we are created and we can never be uncreated, ever. I mean, get your head round that… Beautiful head cluck.
It’s not a case of parents and teachers having lied to their children. They mean well, and truly believe that they are teaching their children what’s best for them. When a child grows up and discovers a different world to the one described by his parents, it may be troubling and disillusioning, but surely we shouldn’t hold our parents’ ignorance against them?

Amazing video. I’ve often debated religious people but could never understand why they always jumped to the next safe place. The Christian weak link is the bible. It is so obviously a political work of man. After watching this video I realize some religious people should remain religious. So many could not handle the freedom or the fact their parents were wrong…all these people lied. For those like Chris, purely intelligent people…most will find their way like Chris. That being said. She this video to 50 20 year olds…the 10 who would realize on their own there was no God at 40….would be freed much sooner.
Ephesians 1:4 says that God picked His believers before the foundation of the world. The Apostle Paul was Saul a murderer of Christians and became the most prolific author of the NT, C.S. Lewis had been a avowed atheist but died the most prolific Christian author of the 20th century. It is at His appointed time that He reveals Himself to us. God don’t make mistakes and if He’d picked you as one of His flock you will be. Just the fact the He picked His believers tells you that some people He just don’t wan, therefore, you never were a Christian n the first place.
Great documentary, but first of all, he claims that we live in a “deterministic universe” several times. This would then mean that there would be no room for a God to change things. However, determinism hasn’t been proven yet and might never be proven. Einstein believed that God throws dice, others don’t. Second, the Mistakes of Moses segment says that God would allow an immoral man to get into heaven for belief in him. I understand that this is rediculous, but many believe that God has a different set of ways to judge morals, and it is briefly talked about in an earlier segment of the film. I am not a theist and I appreciate this video for its information, but do wish it were more objective at times.

Hey. I hope you still read these. I just wanted to let you know, this documentary changed my life. I mean, not single-handedly, I was already struggling with feeling like I was constantly making excuses for God. And it was my biology class that really got the ball rolling. But this documentary helped shed some light on what I was feeling, helped organize in my mind what I was experiencing. It’s been about two months since I watched this, and I’ve changed a lot. I’m still changing in big lurches and jolts. Most of the changes, like being able to understand what a way wider variety of people think, are really wonderful. I’m working on subduing the changes that I don’t like, haha. But I had to come back and say thank you, and say I wish you all the best, and say that if there’s any way you can chat sometime, you should let me know.

Thank you for this series. I have gone through a very similar history. Now, I feel as though I live under the Spanish Inquisition. I was a radical prayer, student of the word and active witness. I accumulated a well read theological and devotional library. I converted a few people. I was witness to a few healings. I was baptised in the Spirit. I helped plant a house church. I went on mission trips. I was even a fellow classmate and aquaintance of Joel Shrum, who was recently murded by Al Qaida for proselatyzing in Yemen.
I loved God sincerely for years. But after fearlessly examining the apologetic arguments for my faith, I found serious problems emerge that I never noticed before. So I read up on the findings of science and archeology. Obviously the Bible was wrong on numerous counts.
I kept record of my own experiences and answers (or lack thereof) to prayer. Over time, unmistakable patterns emerged in every aspect of my walk with God. God was a living creation of my own mind: an imaginary friend. And imaginary friend I had vowed to love and serve “by life or by death.”
I even read “The science of God” which was mentioned in this video. I wish I could meet this guy.
Rather than be angry at this figment of my imagination, I was just disappointed at my having been duped for all my life. I refocused my passions on learning about what and who we are as humans, where we came from, the complex nature of morality and human thinking, and of course, embracing my “carnal” side with utmost joy and guiltlessness.
But by the time I realised I was not a theist, my wife had already taken my kids and left me under ambiguous and false pretenses. We we “unequally yolked.” She couldn’t handle maintaining a relationship with a man who didn’t agree with every aspect of her worldview. What the Bible said about marriage didn’t matter enough to her.
Now my kids are growing up in an environment I know next to nothing about. They have no father. She rarely lets me speak to them on the phone. And I am tormented constantly with desire to be with them.
My life has been devestated by people’s religious beliefs of myself and others. I don’t know if I will find my way through this. I can find solace in myself and the wonders of the universe. But the loss of my children is a black hole that seems inescapable.
If you are a blind faith believer, you are hopelessly lost in intellectual darkness. But there will always be the few and fearless open minded thinkers who find their way out. May those few find strength within. May they somehow overcome human ignorance and thusly possibly save our human race on its evolutionary journey ahead.
I know I’m late to the game but that’s a devastating story. As a Christian I’m appalled at you not being able to see your kids. I have no easy answer for you. Are not the wonders of the universe a similar idea to belief in the wonders of God? And is belief in God dooming for humanity? That which we cannot fully know doesn’t mean we toss out what we do know.
Did you ever think that maybe you have gone into a “dark night of the spirit”? I found that a “dark night of the spirit” is a way some Christians explain the seeming absence of God after living a quite active Christian life. A Christian who has developed a close relationship to Jesus, the son of the living God, can even come to feel the complete absence of Jesus after having felt or been in His actual presence. St. John of the Cross 1542-1591 was such a Christian as was Mother Theresa of Calcutta. I once attended a Christian denomination which taught on the dark night of the spirit. In my experience, Assembly of God churches do not acknowledge the experience called dark night of the spirit. Perhaps a survey of the material others have contributed to the discussion of the “dark night of the spirit” could bring you to a different resolution to your discussion. The material, in my experience, is very difficult to “wrap your mind around”. However, St. John of the Cross was able to write some beautiful poetry that, even when translated into English from the original Spanish, may bring you a sense of peace and relationship you haven’t experienced for a while. I would challenge you to read The Spiritual Canticle, by St. John of the Cross. The translation I have in my library can be found in The Collected Works of St. John of the Cross, by Kieran Kavanaugh, O.C.D. and Otilio Rodriguez, O.C.D. copyright 1991, published by Institute of Carmelite Studies. I pray that you are prepared enough to withstand the rigors such a study is most likely to throw your way.

As a life long atheist I have often been perplexed by the religious mind. Thank you for your outstanding documentary. I now have a much greater understanding of how difficult it is for someone who’s mind has been intellectually hijacked by religion to escape from the childhood brainwashing that ruins the lives of so many millions of children in the world. I commend you for your courage to face your doubts in pursuit of truth about life and the universe based on evidence.

The reason Christians fall away is because we don’t exercise our faith by doing the things Jesus did, (Faith without works is Dead) If the bible was a cook book on baking hundreds of assorted types of bread and you knew all the different recipes, but never actually baked bread, does that make you a baker??? Finally, a lot of churches will only let either the elders or healing teams the laying of hands over the sick, not allowing the congregation to actually place there hands on people limiting there spiritual potential, so if this is you, simply ask the Lord Jesus to lead you to another church or opportunities to develop healing that FLOWS through you. The style is balanced and tends strongly towards the impartial. There is no clumsy rhetoric used to persuade at the expense of factual exploration. Various sources for one’s own further reading are provided for both sides of the coin, so to speak.
Many Atheists are limiting themselves in using only a part of their minds. They cannot develop higher consciousness. Their internal dialogue limits them. Chris only knew the Judeo Christian view of a seperate God. He has never “stopped the world”. He does not understand the power of his own ego. He is a victim of a blind religion. A religion that offers only death as a path to Oneness. It always amazes me that the tangible, most convincing, INDISPUTABLE evidence of the existence of The Creator Of All Things is always overlooked, ignored, and disregarded, especially by atheists, but also, by and large, by believers as well. Prophecy. The theory that scripture was written by primitive people for WHATEVER reason doesn’t explain how those primitive people could have possibly predicted so many future events, so accurately…even events taking place in our present time. Some prophecies require our modern day technology (electricity, communication networks, international electronic banking, etc.) to even be possible! Wow… almost the exact experiences I had growing up in my Christian
family and church. Great job on the videos man.
Man, why do we keep getting stuck on all this crap, it is made of man, so it does not matter what one thinks or another, the spiritual, motives, and principles are what matter. Call yourself what ever you want, do any activities that you prefer, but we must follow the simplest of realities. Love everyone equally and respectfully, and treat people the way you want to be treated, Man, so many times we see people do stuff, we ask on some level if that was me how would I feel about it, and above all if someone did that exact same thing to them, would they react pleasantly, Then why the hell in the first place did they do it. Maybe we should just stick to teaching logic period, stop letting kids learn the hard way, explain all the angles, take you time and teach them, you might just find in the end you did good, REMEMBER if it is of man and causes anything negative, it really does not matter, and that goes for both sides, THE WAY I SEE IT!!!
As a believer who has never experienced anything on a real spiritual level, I would like to say something. First I believe, Second all the stuff that is supposedly leading up to the return is actually happening here and now, I can find this stuff, in life and the bible, and third I think no man should can know God fully, but we can know Jesus and follow him in the ways he taught. We must realize anything here dealing with man or (the human shell) as I call it will pass away, so why must we question stuff that is neither here nor there. You really want to question something try starting with what happens after death, then you might end up on the right path, focusing on that which we are not able to explain that actually matters. I prefer to stick with do to others as you would have them do to you, and LOVE. How could this go wrong?????? to me the real message is these two things period.
Asking / praying Christ into your heart is not taught in scripture as the way to be saved.
Acts 2:38 – 47 is a good starting point showing how people were converted, according to the scriptures, faith in Christ and the message of reconciliation. Read from Acts 2:22 regarding the message one must believe and understand to come to faith in Christ.

You were bent on prayer and God answering your prayers.
You were baptize as a child
You were taught about God by your church / family and friends.
Then as you got older you started to question your beliefs when God did not live up to your expectations.

When you read the NT did you not see the signs? An intelligent man as yourself couldn’t even see behind the words what the true meanings are. And all these years you were brought up as a christian from a very young age.
How many (if any) christian faiths did you look into? Just the one your parents guided you through? Did you try other christian faiths? Not all believe the same as each other. As an example – Some believe Jesus is the Son of God others believe Jesus and God are the same (are One)., Some Christians believe there is a time for war and a time for peace. Some believe Christians should not be involved in wars no matter what the reason where they use the commandment ‘Thy shall not kill’ (or murder). Did you check out all other faiths or were you brought up just on the one belief. If so there’s your reason why you ended up doubting and giving up on God. It wasn’t because of the professors even if you never ever met the professors you speak off never had anyone to talk you into believing there is no God, you would of still came up with the same answer. That God doesn’t exist. Why? Cause you never knew God at all.
You were tricked into thinking that presence you felt that voice you heard, the visions and even angels of light and the speaking in tongues was from God.
When God created the Angels he made them perfect. The angel Lucifer was the bringer of light Gods right hand Angel though God already knew how Lucifer would turn out from the day He created him. Confused? Don’t be.
Lucifer as you would know became the devil. He didn’t need God He wanted angels to follow him instead of God and be his own God. So the war in heaven between Jesus and Satan began & Satan was thrown down to this earth to live out the rest of his existence where his time is short and he will do his best to turn man away from God.
If he can convince man that he doesn’t need God he has done the job. Just like God, Satan to works in mysterious ways, he can talk to you inside you head, he can show himself as an Angel of light and he can cause people today to speak in tongues & deceiver believers by using false prophets. He will use anyone to convince another that God isn’t real or to follow the wrong path. Many many Christians living today from different faiths think they are on the right road many will be surprised come judgement day.
