Orwell Rolls In His Grave

Director Robert Kane Pappas’ ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE is the consummate critical examination of the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Asking whether America has entered an Orwellian world of doublespeak where outright lies can pass for the truth, Pappas explores what the media doesn’t like to talk about: itself.

Meticulously tracing the process by which media has distorted and often dismissed actual news events, Pappas presents a riveting and eloquent mix of media professionals and leading intellectual voices on the media.

Among the cast of characters in ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE are Charles Lewis, director of the Center for Public Integrity, Vincent Bugliosi, former L.A. prosecutor and legal scholar, film director and author Michael Moore, Rep. Bernie Sanders, Danny Schecter, author and former producer for ABC and CNN, and Tony Benn, former member of the British Parliament.

From the very size of the media monopolies and how they got that way to who decides what gets on the air and what doesn’t, ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE moves through a troubling list of questions and news stories that go unanswered and unreported in the mainstream media. Are Americans being given the information a democracy needs to survive or have they been electronically lobotomized? Has the frenzy for media consolidation led to a dangerous irony where in an era of more news sources the majority of the population has actually become less informed?

  1. It’s funny how so people believe the that the media represents either the left or the right. The truth is that the media represents the Establishment. There’s no real tangible left or right. They are only constructs devised by the establlishment to devide the mass populous. It’s just like how the Romans put it, ‘Divide and Rule’.

  2. Such demons!!!! I was trying to figure out when this was made but just listening to Bernie and Michael Moore, etc that are criticizing wealth etc. this was made under Bush. I’d it was Obama years this could not of been made. Let this same guy make a doc on what them Party’s doing today. Crickets!! Burn it down the whole fucking thing !!

  3. It’s hillarious to watch Bernie and paul Krugman complain about the media. Even funnier is Bernie saying it’s turning into the USSR here and he acts outraged about that.

The socialists and communists are in full display in this one.

  4. An interesting note: Eric Blair (George Orwell) worked as a propagandist for the BBC. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/orwell/ . He was a Fabian socialist who didn’t necessarily oppose the kind of society that his position within it allowed him to foresee. Nineteen Eighty-Four was a blueprint, not a warning.

  5. This is why the real situation in South Africa never has been and never will be correctly reported.

  8. If you like this then you should do some research on Sibel Edmonds, http://bradblog.com/ has a fair bit and there is even the “Shoot the Messenger” documentary:

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6063340745569143497

Sibel Edmonds even offered to break her gag orders and tell everything to the media if they would publish all of it. No one took her up on the offer. No one in the media was interested in government officials selling nuclear weapons secrets, taking bribes from foreign officials, or the FBI coving it all up. For shame.

“The Corporation” documentary also fits in here.
