Sonny Liston can be described as a tragic figure, someone who reached for the sky above from the mud below but couldn’t really handle it once he got there. Having literally been run out of three cities by the police, he brought a true aura of destruction and menace into the gym and into the ring.
Although never really seeming to be interested in bettering himself, Liston appeared to be content with his roots in the street and this lifestyle carried over into his boxing career with rumours of fight fixing and other such shady dealings.
Originally aired in 1995, this film tells the story of the life and career of boxer Sonny Liston, who rose from being a violent street enforcer for an organised crime ring to become the heavyweight champion of the world.

This documentary really stuck with me. Sonny Liston’s story is so tragic and deeply tied to the underworld of that era. He brought an actual, terrifying street presence into the ring that you just don’t see anymore. I actually watched this on a lazy Sunday afternoon last month. I was originally trying to find a recent boxing match to watch with my brother, but I ended up frustrated with my streaming app and spent half an hour reading a https://dazn.pissedconsumer.com/review.html just trying to figure out if my subscription was still active. We ended up throwing this 1995 doc on instead, and we were completely captivated.
