Dopesick: Fentanyl’s Deadly Grip

Fentanyl is an extremely strong, synthetic opioid which has been estimated to have 50 times the potency as pure, pharmacy-grade heroin and about 100 times the potency of morphine. Once prescription opioids such as OxyContin started becoming too difficult or too expensive to find on the streets, people who were addicted to these types of drug started turning to the likes of heroin and Fentanyl in order to keep withdrawals at bay.

The use of Fentanyl seems to be rising across the United States and Canada, resulting in hundreds of deaths each year. In this VICE special we see directly how fentanyl is taking grip on Canada’s opiate users and through interviews with the addicts themselves and drug dealers we witness the bleakness which is Fentanyl addiction.
