Today I Died

This BBC documentary is about the scientific studies of after death experiences. What happens after the body has stopped living? What experiences does the dying go through? Can the brain live on after clinical death or is it something else? What do we know about Consciousness? New science research reveals some startling findings.

  1. It seems science is leading to prove the existance of multi dimentions. If this is true it is arrogant and stupid of us to think we know the parameters of posabilities based upon our experience in only this dimention.

  2. any one who calls himself gangster sounds like an idiot why even watch a science doc at all go watch gang docs Im sure it will make you feel tough

  3. I have a website that details an experience where I had an extensive out of body/ near death experience. The site is http://www.wix.com/metatruth/site

  4. Wow seems like a lot of BullShit to me

  5. Each time I watch a big cat take down its prey, and the victim stops struggling and goes into a trance-like state, I think, “That animal must be receiving a massive dose of endorphins.”
No expert here, but the brain’s ability to find ways of coping with any type of system overload is most-impressive.

    • That endorphine the dying prey is experiencing fir it’s final moment comes in the form of DMT which every biological being gets a high dose of in the final moments !

  6. Is this series supposed to encourage people that suicide is probably a good option if life goes wrong?

  7. I Love this topic, I have been researching the phenomena for over a decade. I have read of a 70 year old woman dying during an operation and describing everything in vivid detail. Yet she had been blind for over 50 years. Waldo I like your comment. I am convinced that this is something beyond a brain phenomena. There is an interesting book called ” Science and the near death experience. It looks at consciousess as something seperate from the brain. There are many websites on the NDE subject. Its up to you how far down the rabbit hole you go. Oh and check out Pam Reynolds NDE just google it. It is by definition the smoking gun . Enjoy.. Love Light and Enlightenment to you all.

  8. brain science is rubbish, and ppl that claim o we know why ppl have oobe or nde, is because of the brain dying and its all biochemistry, like give me a break, ppl that sleep every night do not remember dreams while the brain is flaring with activity, and THEY DO NOT REMEMBER, or when going into under the knife, the doctors make sure brain activity is well, but ppl do not remember, yet when the brain is dying your “awareness” of everything happening will be vivid? this doesnt make sense! this is just denial.

  9. I had a experience like they say, and I know it to be true. Its a big step for someone to believe, when they have no personal context for the belief, but no matter how we get to the truth, we all find out in the end. Love is all there is.

  10. I would like to hear this from someone who is actually dead.

  14. Interesting stuff!  Gives me hope of reuniting with loved ones in the afterlife.

    • Only through Jesus by accepting him as your savior that is possible. No one can go to heaven with their sins. Also, don’t go to a catholic church. Although they accept Christ, they are not real christians.

    • Don’t hold your breath. But if you’re lucky, you may hallucinate them in your dying moments.

  22. I watched this because there was mention of “scientific study” of the NDE phenomenon. The part where Dr. Susan Blackmore is talking is scientific, and some parts about measuring brain activity are. There is more supernatural/paranormal drivel. If the person had a mental experience then their brain was functioning, period. If one claims to have had some experience during a time when no brain activity was measured, there are several possibilities; the timing is wrong, perhaps the instrument used for measuring the brain activity is not sufficiently sensitive or comprehensive enough.

    • Good point.

    • We actually know very little about the human mind, notice I said mind not brain. We have no idea what specific part or parts of the brain work together to give you identity, to create conciousness. The latest and most promising theory is that it is created through entanglement of sub-atomic particles located in microtubules, which forms a quantum computer. If this turns out to be the case then from what we already know of quantum entanglement it would be possible for that entanglement pattern to be transferred to other subatomic particles in the environment, after all when we get to the subatomic level all things are made of exactly the same things- protons, nuetrons, electrons, quarks, etc. Now if that entanglement pattern still exists there would be no reason to think it woudn’t still function as a quantum computer and process the information it came into contact with.

That said, I totally understand why you would be skeptical of accounts based on personal experiences and not much else. The reason that I do not dismiss this phenomenon right off hand is that some of these people are able to relate details that they simply should have no way of knowing. Of course humans are very capable sometimes of being able to piece together what things may have looked like based on what they heard or felt, they think later they really saw this or that when in reality they simply imagined seeing it because they could hear and feel what was happening to them and could imagine what that would look like. In the end I would say that skepticism is healthy, but we should keep an open mind, after all that is what science is all about right?

    • This just completely ignored the entire point of the video; you came into the video with preconceptions.  Sometimes, what we think we know is completely wrong.  We can’t assume that everything we currently understand about the universe is true and we cannot supersede conclusions.  Deciding that certain things aren’t conceivable without looking at the evidence causes you to defend dumb ideas for too long, like flat-earthers.

tl;dr: scientific breakthroughs happen.  apply at least an ounce of skepticism to scientific notions, especially in areas where scientists agree they know very little (such as how the brain really works)
