Final Solution: Massacres in India

The Final Solution is a 2003 documentary directed by Rakesh Sharma about the 2002 communal Gujarat Riots that arose as a response to the Godhra Train Burning incident on February 27, 2002, where 58 Hindus were burnt alive on a train carriage. An official estimate states that 254 Hindus and 790 Muslims were killed during the riots, with 223 more missing. The documentary consists mostly of interviews, with both Muslims and Hindus, of multiple generations, and both sexes, with different views regarding the causes, justifications, and the actual events of the violence that occurred, as well as their prospects for the future. The government of Gujurat at the time, led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, was highly criticised throughout the documentary and was accused of inciting much of the rioting and not doing enough to halt it.
One of the interviewees was a small boy who claimed to have seen his relatives being killed in the riots. He said that he wanted to become a “fauji” (soldier) who would kill Hindus when he grew up. When asked why, he replied in Hindi, “Because they did the same.”

Screenings and Censoring: The movie was initially banned in India for about a year, till early 2005 for fears that massive communalism and radicalism would be ignited by its extremely inflammatory content. The Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), had denied the movie from being screened. A pilot movement to copy-and-redistribute the movie was held, briefly to protest the censoring of the movie screenings. The BBC has screened the movie. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Solution_(2003_film))

A no-nonsense, well-researched documentary containing footage the Indian media will never show. It does not exposition or proselytize, just shows the fact about what happened in Gujarat and its consequences.

Even though the film is banned in India, definitely try to get hold of a copy especially if you are Indian. The documentary clearly shows the insidious ways used by the RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal and BJP to spread their doctrine of hate and poison Hindu minds against Muslims just for the purposes of getting votes. See what is being done in the name of Hinduism.

  1. The movie does show a lot of communal tensions that are growing even today. Feels humanity has lost itself and that people are getting brainwashed into something they should not be. It is very disheartening to see this happening in our country, but also showcases reality and how we must together overcome this and become one

  2. It’s very hard to see but this
    documentary is true.

  3. What happened is F****d up but i can see that film maker is having negative agenda towards right wing hindu. He uses words/phrases in such a way that it paints the right wing hindu act the only evil part in this tainted history of ours.
Few examples: at 03:45, he mentions Ram as mythical hindu god; at 04:13, he mentions godhra train incident as ‘clash with muslims’ but uses ‘killing’ for act done by ‘hindu mobs’

Apart from this, documentary makes pretty disturbing and shocking revelations that makes everyone wonder when will this religion based hate crimes will end and our democracy free from religion/cast based politics.

  4. Hindu never started riots bunch of muslim burn Karsevaks (hindus ) inside train even not allowing anybody to come outside the train during burning only few of them escaped search on google

other than sufi , Bohra MUSLIM other muslim (including immigrant) always have problem with other religion they r contributing nuts to countries values

what ab8 those 500,000 kashmiri pandits, sikhs who migrate from kashmir , pakistan punjab to other states of india know one talks about them many were forcibly converted ,killed in kashmir ,pakistan ,bangladesh

Hindu, sikhs ,buddhist, jains ,christains ,jews ,parsi , sufi, bohra muslim all will live long and prosper in india but other muslim better leave this country…..

  5. photographer is biased. he didnt show why this riots was caused. karsevaks were burnt alive and then it all started.

  6. @Jagga
    Democracy is an illusion…
all these fuckin’ labels pertaining to specific ways of running a Country. At this point we’re all slaving to pay the debt that was created outta nothing – label away.

  7. Uhh yeah, solution to something better is the belief in self, loving self, turning to self when problems arise rather than some mythical man playing in the clouds… Time to grow up and face reality, sorry children.
(that is what you refer yourself too, correct? the children of “your god”)

  8. death to all religions!
they all incite hate, exclusiveness, arrogance, ignorance, de-evolution, hypocrisy and holier-than-though portrayals.
free thinking, logic, common sense will be the true saviour of man….not any of the beliefs of invisible men in the skies…
    peace,
    fred

  9. ITS SAD TO SEE THE HATE BETWEEN TWO RELIGIONS AND COMMENTS FULL OF HATE BETWEEN TWO RELIGIONS, ALL I THINK WE NEED TO CREATE A NATIONAL STATE AND HAVE TO CRUSH THE RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS IN ORDER TO LIVE PEACEFULLY, PEOPLE ARE KILLING EACH OTHER OVER RELIGIONS, POLITICIANS WANTS TO ACT SMART AND SOMEWHERE I FEEL LIKE INDIA IS NOT THE BIGGEST DEMOCRACY, THERE IS A SIGH OF DICTATORSHIP, WE DO HAVE A LABEL OF DEMOCRACY HOWEVER THE ESSENCE OF DEMOCRACY IS STILL MISSING, PEOPLE WAKE UP TRY TO BUILD YOURSELF ECONOMICALLY RATHER THEN HATING OTHER PEOPLE ON THE BASIS OF THEIR CASTE AND RELIGION, NARENDRA MODI IS DEFIANTLY not a good leader.

  10. Hmmmm…. wonder why they wouldn’t want muslims in their country?

  11. Any killing of a innocent person regardless of their religion can never EVER be justified. The danger in India is that these types of incidents can flare up at any time as a result of actions by extreme elements within certain sections of society. I can not and will not understand the mob violence from Hindus that follows acts of terrorism like the train burning resulting in the mindless killing, rape, destruction and looting. Similar atrocities unfolded against the Sikhs following the assassination of indra gandhi. Pakistan is responsible for creating much of this Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Jain etc tension and must be stopped by the civilised world. Interesting and informative documentary.

  12. there is good documentary for society , to learn whats the bad result on our country when we are miss our huminty and give big preference to our religion. all of the man first think we are a human then we have any religion . all politicians stop doing bad politics.

  13. its noticable that all of this was going on around the same time as the kurd starvation in iraq, the invasion of kuwait, and the Bosniak Genocide.

  14. India is the most dangerous country for universal peace!

    • Try Pakistan for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Foolish Muslim minds ruled by Islam but no humanity, no wonder the Muslim world is burning.

  15. all religion is evil.. ban religion!!

  16. All lies, Muslims started this by killing Hindus and then cry and lie as they always do.
Islam is not a religion of peace.

    • Actually the Muslims did not start it, it was Hindu extremism. This all
did not just happen over night, just like the so called al-qaeda grpup.
They dont just wake up one day and massacre people. India was peaceful
amongst themselves, 50Muslim, 50% Hindu, until about the End of
Ghandi’s heavy influence. The British are to blame (of course), for
tearing apart Indias way of life and dealings with each other. This
documentary was not meant to tell all that. It was mean t to profile
the violence. Not to dig into their history.

      • Hey Fatima

Your comment if India being peaceful before Gandhi betrays a profound lack of understanding of Indian history. There’s actually multiple instances of horrendous muslim atrocities on Hindus during the Islamic invasion and at various times throughout the Mughal period too. The celebrated historian Will Durant sums it up as – “The Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in
history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that
civilization is a precious good, whose delicate complex of order and
freedom, culture and peace, can at any moment be overthrown by
barbarians invading from without or multiplying within.”

Please let us not try and portray the factual incorrect image of “innocent” Muslims being prayed upon by the “demonic” Hindus.

    • If Islam isn’t the religion of peace then what is it? Do you have anything better to offer…

      • So much violence in 90% muslim countries so how can the religion claim to be peaceful. If Budism made the claim to be a peaceful way of life it will make 110% more sense. This is not prejudice but a simple fact everyone but extreme muslims accept. Please do not respond with ‘ the muslims are violent not the religion’ as the world no longer accepts this as a valid argument.

        • Give me a break. Most of the world’s cocaine comes from Columbia, does that mean Catholicism is connected to drugs? No.

Muslim countries are generally poorer than others, which leads to crime and violence. Not because of religion. And your statistics are shoddy, do you see lots of crime in Muslim countries like Malaysia? Senegal? Mauritania? No.
