Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.

Helvetica encompasses the worlds of design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and invites us to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day. The film was shot in high-definition on location in the United States, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France and Belgium.

I agree with fuckgreece, we don’t need a whole documentary about one, overlyused and overrated typeface. This is merely porn for graphic designers, that strange, uptight, profession of overly-specialized marketing dupes.

Nerds at 12 can scratch the surface – IGNORANT IMBECILE etc etc.
If any designer gave a fuck we’d correct the 12 year olds attempts at a home video  ….99.9% of people including you/tard could not live without design.

Obviously this is aimed at intellectual/creative people who can ‘get’ what this is about. I got it – shame you didn’t!

I’m not particularly interested in fonts, but this movie was great. I said the same thing, “How the fuck do you make a movie out of a font?” But I found out you could.

  12. This is one of my favorites. Interesting story about history and development of a font. Noone could predict that a typeface could become so influential.
